US nuke talks hit roadblock in India

NEW DELHI — In a clear sign of the difficulties dogging the implementation of the India-US nuclear energy deal, New Delhi has conveyed to Washington it is not ready to list its fast breeder reactor programme as a civil nuclear facility.

Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Anil Kakodkar has said such an exercise "will not be in our strategic interest" both for long-term energy security and for maintaining nuclear weapon capabilities. snip

Washington has also indicated that New Delhi's fast breeder reactor programme, which will be powered by India's abundant thorium reserves, should be listed as part of the civilian facilities, and thereby open to inspections by the IAEA.

2. Double Standards
Dare I get flamed for this, but a major letdown from Clinton...looking the other way as both India and Pakistan were gearing up their nuke programs in the early 90's. It was known that Pakistan was building the "Arab bomb" and was willing to share its technology (at a price) with other Arab states.

The booosh regime holds little credibility in dealing with this issue now. Not only is it involved in a war of aggression but also stands in violation of several international conventions in regards to the launching of that war, the subsequent "administration" (occupation) of Iraq and the torture and other violations of international conventions. As though this is the regime to lecture others on operating openly and honestly.

What credibility does this regime have when one of its first actions was to withdraw from the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty. That all but gave carte blanche to any country to flip off the IAEA.
