A DLC shout out from a Nader apologist
Hello DU!
I'm tired of defending Nader's right to run in campaigns. I am tired of people assigning progressives (the people that vote for Nader over Dem candidates) more then 3.8% of the blame for the losses (neither lost!) of Gore and Kerry.

I voted for Nader in 1996 and 2000. I voted for Kerry in 2004. I got back on the Dem party bus!

Even the most conservative Dems, like Zell Miller and Joe Lieberman, are better than the alternatives that the GOP ran against them.

All the Dems that voted for cloture did so for viable political reasons. They thought this vote would help them defeat their GOP opponents in the next election.

Instead of a typical mdmc rant that there is no "major difference" between the two main parties, alla Nader, I have decided to simply agree with the "Dem unity" crows here at DU.

So here it is. Way to go moderate and conservative dems! Way to keep it real and show your leadership! Peace, Vilsak, God!

1. I don't give a shit why jellyfish Dems voted for cloture
the one in my state lost my vote.

If you love your government and approve of what it's doing, vote for incumbents.

If you loathe your government and disapprove of what it's doing, vote the incumbents OUT.

It's the point of democracy.

5. No, he's not.
I won't vote for my own destruction. If a jellyfish is not going to try to block an antichoice fascist on the highest court in the country, then no, he's no better than a GOP.

I don't care if that D behind his name pushes Democrats into a hair thin majority in the Senate. I don't care if he manages to vote in my interest that two or three times a year when he votes against the GOP. He let me down on this one, and it was one of the biggest fights that should have occurred in the dismal reign of King George. It is unforgiveable.

I know left wing men are all too quick to sell out the hard won rights of the 51% of us who are women. Not this time, guys. If that means we get a dismal GOP for 6 years, so be it. It's worth it to get rid of a jellyfish who sold us all out.

3. another opportunity presents itself to the democrats in congress
bush VIOLATED THE LAW with the illegal wire taps.

Why don't the congressional democrats come out and say it? What are they afraid of, BUSH VIOLATED THE LAW WITH ILLEGAL WIRE TAPS

rove and cheney were involved in outing a CIA agent, WHERE ARE YOU DEMOCRATS!!!

bush LIED ABOUT IRAQ.

Everyday you should be hitting these issues hard, DEMAND AND INVESTIGATION, point out the attorney general lied about the wire taps. Point out that the attorney general works for US, NOT the president

Essentially nothing will happen. Even if by some grace they take back congress in 2006 will they bring up impeachment?

Many of the democrats are part of the problem

8. So you are willing to settle eh?
Settle for fewer and fewer crumbs from off the table. Willing to settle for the two party/same corporate master system of government. Willing to settle for our society being sold down the river, time and again. Williing to settle for whatever the "leaders" of either party deign to give us.

When you are willing to settle friend, you are willing to receive nothing. Sorry, I can't join you there. Good luck, and I hope you come to your senses soon.

12. Bingo!
I really hate the DLC, but I do not think that Nader deserves more than 4% of the blame for our state of the union.

My post is sarcastic, but the point remains - rat worm DLC Dems are still better than the GOP. Nader runs because this (lesser of two evils) is not enough!

11. give me a fucking break.
Zell and Joementum are worse than the GOP because they are outright traitors. They keep the Democrat label but run and legislate along with the pukes.

How do you defeat the GOP by voting like the GOP? Do tell. With working examples.

The Democrats are the Opposition Party. Yet, they do not Oppose anything the Majority does. The public opinion of the Democrats is that they have no spine, no message, no plan. This is precisely because the so-called "leadership" is trying to toe the imaginary centrist line. If they instead STAND UP against all things Repuke and dispense with the mealy-mouthed GOP-lite talking points, their standing with the public will INCREASE. They will be respected for standing up for their core values and even if x y or z position is an uphill battle in opinion polls, guess what: taking such a stand will DRAW PEOPLE to their side if it is well articulated, forceful, and uncompromising.

Americans disdain politics and politicians. So, Dems need to stop acting like politicians and start being political leaders. That includes calling out the DLC on their bullshit.

13. yodermon, you post the truth!
Now, explain to me - how this is all Naders fault?

Your post is exactly what I think is wrong with our party. The LAST thing that we should be wasting time on is bashing little ol' Nader.

I posted this because of all the Nader-hater threads on DU. I suggest that posts like yours are more valid in regards to moving our party forward. Be progressive B. E. Progressive!
