Get ready for the bashing of the funeral............
as just politics. Chris Matthews is really upset about Carter's speech. I think we need to be prepared that this is how the whole thing will be portrayed, just like Paul Wellstone's service.

I, for one, think these desperate times call for people speaking out whenever they have the opportunity to reach as many people as possible. Thank God President Carter had the courage to say the things that needed to be said.

1. Why do people think that activism is wrong at an activist's service?
I think the people being memorialized would want it that way. It validates what they did all their lives.

16. text here of the wiretap part
<snip> With Washington debating the legality of Bush's domestic eavesdropping on Americans suspected of al Qaeda ties, Carter also drew applause with pointed comments on federal efforts to spy on the Kings.

"It was difficult for them personally with the civil liberties of both husband and wife violated, and they became the targets of secret government wiretapping and other surveillance," he said.

39. That's ridiculous
Carter didn't even stand there and explicitly say, "J'accuse!". He factually recounted something that happened to MLK back when Georgie was racking up DWI's. Gee, from the RW overreaction, you'd almost think they were guilty of something...

11. They do not DARE try to call it "wellstonian" (that was evil of them)
They have no right to make any complaints about the funeral. It was up to the friends and family to honor her as they saw fit and no business of any freepers to dispute how it was handled.

FWIW I think this is a beautiful and moving service. As I said earlier on another post, if I could be adopted by someone as a daughter or granddaughter I would pick Maya Amngelou. I love her and she was so eloquent and just perfect today. Perfect. As has been everyone else who has been sincerely celebrating Mrs. King.

only proves to me, that they can't face reality-

MLKjr, and Coretta, lived the talk- They weren't bullshit artists, and sound byte wanna-be's like bush.

"The truth DOES hurt, but you can run from it or learn from it."- (a mis-quote from Rafiki in the Lion King).

15. Why is that ASSHOLE picking on Carter,...as if Carter's the only one,...
Edited on Tue Feb-07-06 04:40 PM by Just Me
,...who reported the facts and told the damn truth about this administration's abuses of power and criminal activities and defrauding of the American people?!?!?!?!

I'll tell you why!!! 'Cause that ASSHOLE doesn't give a shit about the state of this country, its people or the direction of this nation. All he cares about is himself,...just like the ASSHOLES running this country,...just like the profiteers of HATE RADIO,...just like the corporacrats who sleep with those monsters in order to advance profit (for the love of money) rather than people. They are ALL the same: they choose profit over principles and/or people and they really DO NOT GIVE A SHIT about anyone other than themselves. Welcome to capitalistic, corporate-controlled America.

That's why I don't watch him. That's why I don't watch any of those ASSHOLES. I cling to those who DO GIVE A SHIT. We all should do that.

Yeah, that's why they call it "Hardball" -- it's not about INFORMING people, it's about people YELLING AT EACH OTHER and celebrating conflict.

I don't watch wrestling; why should I waste my time with a show like Matthews?

37. Show them this photo

The White House photograph shows Bush aboard Air Force One, talking to Vice President Dick Cheney hours after the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

The National Republican Senatorial Committee and the National Republican Congressional Committee are offering the picture, along with photos of the president during his State of the Union address and at his inauguration, to donors who contribute at least $150 and attend a fund-raising dinner with Bush and the first lady next month.

"We know it's the Republicans' strategy to use the war for political gain, but I would hope that even the most cynical partisan operative would have cowered at the notion of exploiting the September 11 tragedy in this way," said Terry McAuliffe, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, in a written statement.

http://archives.cnn.com/2002/ALLPOLITICS/05/14/wh.fundraising.flap/

The Bushistas used the worse attack on American soil to highlight a political event and raise money for the GOP.

This is far worse than anything the neo-Con fascists say about the Wellstone or King funerals.

It showed the EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES!!! They are embarrased and they are all going to be grasping at straws - I can hear it now (its already on message boards - I'm fighting with them tooth & nail) - its all the "faux" outrage again. This time the DEMS had better stand up - and say suck it! This is what happens when Bush is not in front of his hand-picked crowds!!!!
