Someone Please Tell Me If This is True or Not....(Fred Phelps/Westboro)

((I had heard about the Phelps plan to demonstrate at Coretta King's funeral, but not his comments about the Super Bowl cities....what a joke he is, if this is true....or not true.))

The anti-gay Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, KS, announced plans to picket Seattle’s civic mourning in the wake of the Seahawk’s disappointing loss in Super Bowl XL.
The city’s championship dreams collapsed last night under the weight of sloppy play, questionable clock management, and drive-killing penalties, which the Rev. Fred Phelps blamed on “divine retribution” for recently passed gay civil rights legislation, declaring “The Lord works in mysterious ways… and sometimes through the zebras.”

Phelps and his church have protested at the funerals of Matthew Shephard and Mr. Rogers, and have also announced plans to picket the funeral of civil rights icon Coretta Scott King. Citing her vocal support of gay issues, Rev. Phelps called her “an ingrate – unthankful and unholy,” who brought down the “wrath of God” upon herself:

“God hates fags and fag-enablers! Ergo, God hates Coretta Scott King and is now tormenting her with fire and brimstone…”

Rev. Phelps struck a similar chord in talking about Seattle’s Super Bowl loss, saying that God chose to torment fans with momentum-turning penalties and dropped passes in retaliation for the city’s unholy abomination: “God hates Seattle! It was Seattle’s fags who hardened God’s heart, and it was God’s wrath that turned Jerramy Stevens’ hands to stone.”

As for Pittsburgh, he described the Steelers’ home town as a “manly, God-fearing” city… except maybe for some excessive hugging in The Deer Hunter. “That was a little faggy,” Rev. Phelps admitted, “but God already punished director Michael Cimino with Heaven’s Gate.”

4. Damn sure knows nothing about the Burgh;
Have a very active gay community and all the major institutions in the city recognize same-sex partners in their medical coverage. And we still drink Iron City, even the gay ones!

5. They have been protesting funerals around here too
and the Republicans in town have been writing Letters to the Editor saying they were Peace Activists. Finally Jim Doyle put together a law that there can be no demonstrations near funerals and came right out and called them by name and said they were right wing loonies.... But beware - the Republicans will use this tactic and people that don't know better or are not at these funerals automatically think anti-war protests when it is reported that there were protesters at military funerals. So set them straight when you see these letters or hear anyone claiming it is anti-war....

6. Wait....I don't understand

Do you mean letters to the editor claimed that the Phelps group was a peace-activist group? Are you serious? Did people believe that? What about all of the soldiers's funerals they have picketed?

Or, are you saying that the letters claimed that, since it is a peaceful demonstration, they have to be allowed to demonstrate/picket?

Where do you live?

11. The Republican's in this area write letters to the paper
IMPLYING that the demonstrators are peace activists, just by saying "the protesters" and not saying what they were protesting. But it turns out they were some of this group, demonstrating against the soldiers because they fought for a country that condones gays...then usually there is an article in the back of the local section saying that there were demonstrations by the Reverand Pheleps group, blah, blah, blah, but people don't seem to connect the two...

9. I don't know, I didn't hear anything about it.
But, I'll bet if he and his little chicken shit band of supporters had picketed, they would walk away carrying their asses.

10. Phelps to be at Ft. Campbell, gate 4 tomorrow
From the looks of things, I do believe this poor
SOB done gone and picked hisself the wrrrrrrong town.

If I can get close enough to take pics I'll post
them here tomorrow PM in the GD.

Latest from the local paper:

Picketers will find Gate 4 shut
New Kentucky bill will keep protesters 300 feet from military memorial services
By CHANTAL ESCOTO
The Leaf-Chronicle

Fort Campbell is closing down Gate 4 to all traffic between 5 and 7 p.m. Wednesday in response to a Kansas church group's plans to picket the post's monthly Eagle Remembrance ceremony.

Westboro Baptist Church, based in Topeka, Kan., and led by the Rev. Fred Phelps, will demonstrate outside U.S. Cavalry, which is located outside Gate 4. Oak Grove officials said Monday several groups have picked up permits to stage counter-demonstrations.

The Kentucky House and Senate each passed bills Monday that would make protesters stay 300 feet away from military funerals or memorial services. The approved version also would keep picketers from making themselves heard to grieving families.

The new Kentucky law will not impact Wednesday's planned demonstrations, as the picket locations are already more than 300 feet from the 101st Airborne Division and Fort Campbell headquarters, the location of the remembrance ceremony. Fort Campbell spokeswoman Kelly Tyler said it is a federal crime to protest on post.
