Tom DeLay to Oversee Justice Department
via Jane at firedoglake, who says she's not drunk. It's from the AP article:

snip>
DeLay, R-Texas, also claimed a seat on the subcommittee overseeing the Justice Department, which is currently investigating an influence-peddling scandal involving disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff and his dealings with lawmakers.

Isn't Tom Delay involved in the Abramoff scandal somehow? What a scumbag! Hopefully he will lose his seat in November (or better yet, go to jail!).

Chertoff and apparently with DeLay's defense team as well, was another of Bush's controversial recess appointments:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x41598
thread title (1/3 GD): Alice Fisher DOJ Prosecutor/ Ties to Gitmo Interrogations/Chertoff/DeLay
Comment/excerpt: “Alice S. Fisher was appointed (http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2005/08/20050831-5.html) by President George W. Bush in a recess appointment August 31, 2005, as Assistant Attorney General to head the Criminal Division in the Department of Justice. Fisher was nominated March 29, 2005, and her nomination was sent to the Senate April 4, 2005. Her nomination was stalled over interrogation tactics at the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, naval facility. … She also been a long-time protégé of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff," Vermont Senator Patrick J. Leahy said …. Leahy also expressed concerns about Fisher's "views on checks of controversial provisions of the Patriot Act and her opposition to the Act’s sunset provision; her participation in meetings in which the FBI expressed its disagreement with harsh interrogation methods practiced by the military toward detainees held at Guantanamo, and her ideas about appropriate safeguards for the treatment of enemy combatants." Leahy was also concerned about "reports that she has had ties to Congressman Tom DeLay’s defense team" and "also to know what steps she to take to avoid a conflict of interest in the Department’s investigation of lobbyist Jack Abramoff and possibly Mr. DeLay."

thread title (1/4 GD): I find this very interesting and disturbing
Comment/excerpt: Another thread on Alice Fisher and the massive conflict of interest

This person now heads the Criminal Division in the Department of Justice. All one big happy crime family.

This outrageous appointment of Alice Fisher also has very serious implications for conflict of interest in the Fitzgerald investigation.

19. Ironically that is good news...
because if the Dems did not have a good reason to argue -- conflict of interest –- between the Justice Department and the Repukes as being the reason they need a special prosecutor, they do now, with Delay being indicted -- and with his possible connections to Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

I am not a lawyer; any lawyers know if this is possible counter argument to Bush?

24. Unbelievable
Nothing stops them. They'd get appointments like this in while serving jail time, as if they would ever serve a day. How can nothing ever touch them? How is this allowed to happen? Will this country ever be able to get rid of the stench of these people?

This admin has been in office for 6 years now, but it feels as if they've been in power for about 25 years.

Will it really take a armed revoloution to stop this madness? If I didn't have relatives and friends that belonged to the repukes I would probably start stopping them on the street and shake them to their senses. :banghead:
