Why the global rage hasn't engulfed Canada
Why haven't Muslims in Canada taken to the streets in large numbers to protest against cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed? It's not because everyone in Canada is so nice to each other, say Canadian Muslim leaders and Islamic scholars. It's because Canada's multiculturalism is complex.

They say Muslim immigration into Canada has been different. So has Muslim integration into Canadian society. And so has the political action of Canadian Muslim organizations around the highly sensitive issue of Islamic religious fundamentalism.

2. I could be wrong
but I've been hearing that people in the ME are not being shown the real cartoons, but instead ones of muhammed as a pig and truly insulting things like that. Maybe the Canadian Muslims are not rioting because they have seen the real cartoons, plus they are more familiar with the Western conception of editorial cartoons.

I'm not sure but I wanted to throw this one out there to see what others think.

3. cartoon published 4 months ago?
I dunno to what degree integration is a factor. That probably has something to do with it...

What I would like to know is that given that the allegedly offensive cartoon were published way back in September, why did it take 4 months for the "outrage"? Seems like somebody in the European Muslim community might be trying to make their bones with the extremeists.

8. Nope...there was a peaceful protest at the office of the Philly Enquirer
But that's all I've heard of.

I was encouraged that the latest protest in Lebabnon was peaceful with a huge crowd.

7. And the debate on Sharia law came down to that we treat everyone the same
or nobody gets 'special tribunals'.
