On Good, Evil, and the art of motorcycle maintenance
(I wrote this awhile back, but it seems oddly appropriate now)

TREATISE ON GOOD, EVIL, AND THE ART OF MOTORCYCLE MAINTENANCE
by Lerk

Its been said there is no darkness, merely absence of light

Why does evil flourish? Actually it doesn't. It decays. It can't flourish because it is unable to generate life. Good regenerates by its sharing and giving nature. This nurtures good in others, and the end result is MORE life

Evil sucks life out of things, discards the husk, and searches for more Good to kill/subvert/hobble. Ultimately, Evil works on a dwindling supply, the more it destroys, the less it has available to destroy, an ever-diminishing noose that eventually chokes evil. Pathetic, actually…But because Good shares, and encourages, it is an ever-widening circle, a growing garden if you will. This makes Evil jealous. This makes Evil angry…Because Evil shuns the light; it cannot destroy this garden from the outside.

So what does it do? It tries to coerce and anger the gardeners, causing them to destroy their own garden, trampling over their own plants in an effort to destroy the threat, the Evil. Evil laughs. Good loses.

Unless, of course, Good is reminded of what is truly precious. Unless Good looks around, sniffs the flowers, enjoys the garden and shares with the other gardeners. Then, the Jackals outside become mere pale echoes. Eventually, in frustration, Evil goes away, and Good has a big party.

It has been said that man is motivated by what he fears, and what he desires.

What does Evil fear? To disappear, to fade away into nothingness. Since it cannot regenerate, and attacks all around it, it cannot be sustained by any outside itself. It will die, eventually.

Let's give Evil the anonymity it fears most. Let's give Evil nothing to mark its passage through our garden. Let not the name of evil remain on our scrolls, our lips or our thoughts. Let's not let evil cause us to trample our own plants. Let's continue to cultivate our gardens with care, treating the other gardeners with dignity and respect

Let's have a joyous party, for it is the noise of togetherness and happiness that will drive away Evil, for it cannot understand it.

Oh, and motorcycles need oil on a regular basis.
