Angry Soccer Mom
I hope I don't come across as completely ignorant, but I am a political virgin so to speak. I freely admit that I didn't pay any attention to government/politics until 9/11. I offer no excuses for my lack of civic responsibility, I will only say that I pay attention now and I am horrified by what I see. Any fear I may have from terrorism pales in comparison to the terror I feel from the policies of this administraion. These overly aggressive nutjobs scare the shit out of me. As a so called "Soccer Mom", I am so pissed off that the * Regime touts itself as the almighty protector of my children all the while doing everything they can to insure they put them in harms way. My biggest concern (aside from this NSA garbage) is that * stupidly announces to the world in the SOTU that it is Americas mission to spread freedom and democracy around the world and push for an end to tyranny. Hello? Does he not realize that huge tyrannical governments like China just might be paying attention. Who gave him the authority to redefine our countries mission in this world? I certainly didn't. Don't misunderstand me, I am all for freedom and democracy but I am of the belief that it is something that has to have roots to grow not something that can be inserted by our military forces. I like to compare it to the bully in the schoolyard. We all know what happens to him. I am truly fearful for my children if this country doesn't change course soon. All that being said, I have to say that if the Democratic party doesn't stand united we will all fall. It is time for the Dem leaders to call for a sit down. They all need to check political aspirations and egos at the door. For the sake of our safety, our freedoms and yes our patriotism, they need to fight fire with fire. This administration has been successful because it plays on fears. So I say we turn the tables. We have alot to fear from the policies of this administration. Lets spread the fear. It is crucial that Democrats formulate a simple strong message. It is as equally crucial that all of them echo it from every podium , spew it in front of every television, and dictate it to every newspaper in the nation. Democrats please unite, my childrens lives may depend on it.

I am worried sick about the future for my teenagers and step-grandaughter. I hope that you'll spread your concerns and sources of info out to your soccer-mom friends so we can get the future back from the maniacs who care nothing at all about our security.

They are turning America into a Banana Republic and our kids will be paying for it in many ways.

14. the sense of urgency
Is the haunting feeling that we might be too late to turn the ship around. I don't think that's true. As more and more people recognize that they are not getting the information they need from the so-called "mainstream media" they are looking around to find out where the "News" went. Connections are made and work can be done.
I see from your profile that you're in Pa. Have you joined in at the Pennsylvania forum?

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=175

There is so little political discourse in our day to day lives (except for grumbling in checkout lines etc) that it's hard to gage the political climate of our own neighborhoods) This feeling of isolation has been deliberately fostered by the mind numbing so called news of missing blonds and other "police blotter" news stories that have no implications beyond those involved.

You will find this place to be a wealth of information.. Dive right in, the water's roiling!

I didn't realize that this was here. Thanks for the info. I will definately join. I honestly don't pay much attention as to what goes on the state. I am so consumed with the federal government. I will definately join up because as I learned, lack of attention is what got us into this mess.

13. Welcome! (and about China)
We don't have to worry about China, from an "invasion" perspective.. They are in the process of buying us outright. They and the Saudi's are picking up the note on the bulk of our debt. All they'll have to do to take over is call in the loan.

I think a lot of us got a big civic "kick in the butt" when we saw how this administration was misusing the emotion that poured over us right after 9/11. He's been misusing it ever since.

I had no clue what the national debt was about so I decided to educate myself on it. Rather confusing but I seemed to come to the same conclusion. When I tried to point this out to a few relatives who refuse to see the overall picture of the state of our union I was dismissed as crazy.

Commented that it's impossible to inherit that kind of debt from one's parents; grossly irresponsible to do the same at that national level. There may be better stats available but I happened to read that last night.

17. Hi Klukie!
From one soccer mom to another! I'm hangin in the repub west suburbs of Chicago, and *ush is freakin me out too!
Welcome to DU. If your like me you probably have been reading for a while. I really wish we Dems could all speak with one voice too but I've learned by reading this sight that it's just not who we are. We are all so diverse and so passionate on our causes. But one thing I know we all agree on is how bad *ush is for this country. That I think is what we need to focus on. We need to repeat what he has done and how different it would be if Dems were in power. For instance:

* WE wouldn't have spent the 200 Billion dollars
* WE wouldn't have allowed UBL to get away in Afghanistan
* WE would be obeying the laws that keep us free
* WE would've used diplomacy long ago in dealing with Iran-- years ago
* WE would make the Ayatollahs irrelevant
* WE would've made friends abroad, instead of enemies
* THEY have NOT made us safer-- they've made us more vulnerable!
* WE feel the responsibility to care for our returning vets, wounded, suffering mental trauma, or otherwise
* WE wouldn't take away benefits from the Veterans, but rather give more to them and by doing so - recognize and honor their service

Hang in there! :hi:

20. I totally agree
Democrats by nature are not conformists. This is their greatest strength, but right now I think it may be to our detriment. The strategy of most enemies is to attack the opponents greatest strength hence the * adminstrations rhetoric that the democratic party is the party of no ideas. He has got to be joking right? This party has so many ideas that they are coming out of our ears. If we could only conform on the main ideas that we all obviously agree on and portray that to America we would beat them hands down.

I didn't pay too much attention either until after 9/11 so I won't be the one to hold it against you. I'm now a political junkie. Oh and I guess you can call me a soccer mom too even though my child is more into gymnastics than soccer. :)

I think everyone agrees with you about the Dems having a unified message and getting it out there. The problem is that when the media is owned by the other side, the news coverage just isn't going to happen the way we'd like it to. They will always distort and warp our message or just refuse to cover it at all. They will always have 3 conservatives to one liberal and that one liberal is guaranteed to be the whiniest, nerdiest they can find. I've come to the conclusion that until some of the wealthy on the left put some massive effort into building a media infrastructure to support *our* message, it will always seem muddied and unclear at best, hypocritical and disingenuine at worst.

28. Welcome to DU!
I'm a mom and I have been motivated the past couple of years not only by fear but outrage at what this administration has done and continues to do in the name of "democracy" which is not democracy but actually pure greed! I ended up on DU over a year ago after the stolen election of 04 and now when I log on, I ask myself what the "outrage of the day" will be. One thing for sure, the newest outrage is always more despicable than the previous outrage. :grr:

After a couple of years exploring politics and seeing outrage after outrage pile up as so much trash, I have very little hope in our dem leadership. Far too many of them are DINOS-democrats in name only. They are corporately owned and controlled and do not serve the people they were elected to serve. Same thing with our media-it too is corporately owned and controlled. We, the people, have been dissed and screwed over big time.

At this point, I think the only way to bring about the change we want is to do it ourselves. We must be the media and tell the truth every chance we get. Your post gives me a glimmer of hope that it's already happening and that the good people of this country are getting clued into the outrages, the lies and the hypocrisy despite the heavy duty and underhanded "nutjob" (love that word!) spin by the bastards in Washington and in the Media. :bounce:

(I still shake my head at my ignorance before I started learning the facts and not listening to the "spin".)

I worry for my beautiful children too, but a small majority of America now sees bush for the liar he is. Educating and waking up the masses takes a long time but it is now getting closer to the impeachment of the boy king. His locked in goosestep minions are turning on him too!

For the first time in a VERY long time I am completely optimistic!!!!

34. Welcome to DU
It is very frightening to feel helpless in the current situation we find ourselves in. Take heart that many of us feel the same. We will never surrender.

The ball is rolling even when we (DEMS) have some bad days here (ALITO). The truth is coming out and will continue to.

We are organized albeit not as organized as the crime bosses running the country nonetheless you have the ability to organize starting with your local levels and participating with DU and contacting your representatives. Sometimes that gives you a peace of mind that your participation will make a difference. I have been there myself.

We are doing it for the future generations and all our children. I will disagree with the "fear factor" as it is joke and the public is just waking up to it so I wouldn't want to participate in an action that created false fears for Americans. Americans are slow to get it but they can't keep dragging out that same ol excuse without most of us laughing our asses off.

Good luck and look forward to hearing from you at DU :)

One time late last year I saw on CNN this special about Saudi Arabia and other governments like them. It was mostly focused on Saudi Arabia. The CNNI reporter followed around two people: a guy in his late twenties or early/mid thirties and a woman in her fourties I'd say. Of course for all I know I could be wrong. Basically they talked about problems they disagreed with on the government but the whole summary of the program was to show how each country is different and different things work for different people. Each country has to figure out what works for them just like we did. You can't go in and force people to go in your direction. And welcome to DU!
