DIRTY: Bush's thwarted attack on LA. Playing politics with terrorism.
His poll numbers continue to fall, the SOTU didn't give him a bump, he's facing bi-partasan criticism of his domestic spying, and his advisor/traitor karl is trying to play the fear card for the midterms. So what do I see first thing when I hit the web today? Our fearless leader prevented a "catastrophic attack" on the west coast.

Wait a minute... I thought that we weren't supposed to comment on operations as it could aid the enemy! I guess that doesn't apply when the president is in political hot water and wants to take credit for it.

But even if this is true, and not another fabrication... I mean, fool me three dozen times, shame on me-- right? Even if it's true, Bush taking credit? Give me a break. He doesn't even know what the hell happened.

CNN, of course, left this out, but linked from google news (http://www.news24.com/News24/World/News/0,,2-10-1462_1878482,00.html) was this tidbit:

Bush referred to the plot as targeting the Liberty Tower in Los Angeles, but White House aides afterward said Bush had meant to say the intended target was the city's Library Tower.

Hey, it's an easy mistake for him. They're both things that he claims to be for, but in reality hates with a burning passion.

I'm interested to see how this unfolds. If successful, you can bet we'll be hearing a lot more stories about how the brave republicans saved us from the evil terrorists despite the evil democrats' obstruction. After all, it's not like we'll be able to see any evidence to back this shit up: that's classified. We'll just have to be scared enough to take their word for it... just like the WMDs.

This level of using the terrorist boogeyman to scare our people into giving the republicans electoral gains is sickening. I just hope that Americans can summon the courage to see through it.

1. no way it ever happened. they would have been crowing loud and long
and parading people and facts if it did.

it is bullshit, a tale spun from a word or gesture into a novel. like the aluminum tubes and uranium yellowcake.

LIES.

2. They would have leaked this before 2004 election.
that is if it were true. This is good timing also; will terror save shrub again?
Americans should demand proof of this supposed attack. BU(LL)SHIT!

5. very good point
or perhaps they had a tough choice between this and the osama tape and karl decided to hold on to this one for a time when he had more of the scheme in place.

6. Good news
I've been watching television today. The cable news networks are more interested in the Entwhistle murders and the Olympics in Torino. CNN is now covering the Katrina hearings. I think Bush's bogus speech today will get drowned out.

9. That little speech had a lot "we believed" and "we think" in it. Do
people remember that during that same time period they "believed" and "thought" Iraq had WMD's and a mushroom cloud was going to kill us all?

I, for one, don't believe a word that they are saying at this point. They've played "boy who cried wolf" way too many times for me to think this is any more truthful than their previous rhetoric.

14. That's because we have a RIGHT to bear arms. Though what
you would do with bear arms has always confused me. Plays hell with the bear population, though.

16. That's a point we won't hear Wolfie hawking.
If any corporate news whore brings up the fact that virtually nothing Bush wants us to "think" or "believe" about terror and WMDs ever turns out to be true, I'll eat my hat.

13. yeah, I thought that was pretty funny
He has to pretend to like Libraries or laura would be mad, but it's not like he reads.
He has to pretend to like Liberties or America would be mad, but it's not like he protects ours.

Plus he's just generally confused, so I guess I can see how this would be an easy mistake for him.

11. Well, goody for him! Yahoo!
And I still haven't heard a single soul say he shouldn't be spying on terrorists! In fact, the only place I've seen/heard/read that is from partisans and pundits accusing Democrats of saying it.

Good for you, GWB (if it's true). Now, if you'll just hand over the goods on the program between January 2003 and November 2004 to prove you did not spy on YOUR perceived enemies, and start getting WARRANTS from here on out, you can carry on.
