MY HEAD IS EXPLODING - Corporate Media A-HOLES!!!!
Edited on Thu Feb-09-06 04:32 PM by jackstraw45
Just step back in your mind a moment and realize this:

- The President has CLEARLY broken the law, ordering ILLEGAL WIRETAPS on an unknown number of American citizens.

- The Vice President is being implicated in ordering his Chief of Staff to out a covert CIA operative as payback.

What is the FU*KING headline?

Brittany spears is SORRY for driving with her baby in her lap.

My head is exploding.

I WEEP for our nation.

1. We've got to do what dissidents did under Soviet Communism
They created their own media to counter state propaganda.

10. DU is great but we are just talking to each other....
This is the MOST corrupt administration in HISTORy - there are CRIMES on the table and the media is IGNORING them.

This should be the height of WatergateX10 RIGHT NOW.

If this isn't a constitutional crisis, I don't know what is.

But what can we do? I don't know - never believed in cutting and running but it looks more and more promising daily.

26. I know it seems we're only talking to each other here,
but the news does leak out. Just as a dissident writer couldn't know who would wind up reading his samizdat manuscript, there'e no telling who is reading us here (other than Agent Mike :hi: ) and it is frustratingly slow. But samizdat did not just pop up overnight - it was something that went on for 20, 30 years. We can move so much faster. All we need to do is keep mentioning in conversations "I read on Kos the other day...", "There was a thread on Democratic Underground about that...", "Did you see on Crisis Papers where he was talking about...".

Unless we can come up with a few billionaires to fund alternative TV/Radio/newspaper/press, WE are what we've got.

15. Well, to a certain extent, yes
But I'm thinking of more of what Vaclev Havel and people like him did. The Internet is powerful and very useful, but what brings about real change is people coming together to create a culture "living in truth", as Havel wrote, and use the media to promote and broadcast it.

20. I don't see that as what we are doing here. We are just comparing
what we see happening with what we are told is happening. We haven't taken

on the lie game to get our point across. We really don't have to and

aren't inclined to. Remember we have try are best to keep integrity in

government.

27. I think you misunderstand. I don't advocate propaganda.
The opposite of propaganda is not counter-propaganda, it is truth. What we do here, hopefully, is discuss in depth, burn through the propaganda from the corporate media, peel away the layers of conspiracy theory and half-truth to come up with the reality.

At least that's what I hope we are doing here.

3. I hate to do this to you
But the CBS Evening News on Tuesday. "Today in the Senate, the focus was on preventing another 9/11." It was the story about the hearings on wiretapping. Talking about Brittany is almost better than that.

6. Hey, there's a Britney video playing?
Damn, at least you could tell us what station it's on.

I'm really, really concerned about her marriage and how the child will develop.

Happily there's not much else in the world to be concerned about!

Actually, Chavez should buy Univision. It's for sale. Can anyone imagine the outcry in this home of "press freedom" if a left-wing network actually got bankrolled?

I've been writing about a national progressive MSM boycott for a week, but no one is paying attention...

They're probably too busy enjoying the "news" about Britney...

But even here at DU it's difficult to get people to stop watching their "Tweety" shows, their Blitzer shows, their Hannity shows..much less organize a boycott of Corporate media sponsors and parent companies.

*sigh*

23. There must be something we can do about this bullshit
It's all out in the open, our country is being run by criminals who are pushing for yet another war, but they just go on with business as usual. They have a certain small percentage of the population still believing all is well and that is all they care about.

Oh how I wish we could be like the Ukraine...

But when Tatyana Krav-chenko, UT-1’s anchorwoman, announced on Thursday morning that Mr Yanukovych had won a disputed presidential election, Mrs Dmitruk left the script.

“I am addressing all the deaf citizens of Ukraine,” she signed from the bottom right-hand corner of the screen, a ribbon of opposition orange tied around her wrist. “Our President is Yushchenko. Don’t believe what they say. They are lying.”

Then Mrs Dmitruk, 47, whose parents are deaf, went back to interpreting the report, before abandoning the script again at the end of the bulletin.

“My soul is heavy that I had to repeat these lies,” she signed - her colleagues still oblivious to what she was doing. “I will not do it again. I don’t know if we’ll see each other again.”

When her newscast finished, Mrs Dmitruk left the studio and joined a strike by more than 220 journalists and contributors at UT-1 in protest at the one-sided coverage of the election and its aftermath.

Now UT-1 and other state-controlled channels have bowed to pressure to lift a ban on coverage of opposition protests, giving many people in Russian-speaking eastern Ukraine their first glimpse of the huge crowds around Kiev’s Independence Square.

I was so frustrated that our channel was not telling the truth,” she said. “I felt responsible because the deaf rely on me for their information.”

I wasn’t afraid because I felt that I was doing the right thing, that what was happening on Independence Square was right,” she said. “I am not a radical, but I believe in Yushchenko.”
