There is enough world food production to feed everyone 3-4K calories a day..

Politics is causing poverty/hunger/instability..

Farmers worldwide are committing suicide because they can't afford to farm anymore, and when they sell (in the US) the taxes they owe eat up any "profit" they might make from selling the farm. The ones who have insurance, sometimes see suicide or "a fatal accident" so his family can survive financially.

Poor farmers elsewhere are committing public suicide to make their point..

The US now imports MORE food than we export.:(

Excellent documentary is running on Link TV..

"The Global Banquet: By Invitation Only"

repeating today at 3PM

1. Farmers in America are also getting old.
Average age is somewhere in the 50s I believe. I know parents who tell their kids they will be disowned if they do not leave the family farm/ranch. They do not want their kids to go through what they have and also see it will only get worse.

Yep, the Garden of Eden is all around us and we are blind to it while we busy ourselves with the trappings of our man-made hell.

4. and the new budget from the white house just fucked the farmers again
Edited on Fri Feb-10-06 09:43 AM by Rabrrrrrr
bankruptcy and massive debt under Reagan; taxed to fuck and not supported under this asshole.

The republicans sure love to "support" families and "american values" while destroying family farms as fast as they can, so that their corporate buddies can buy up the land and tear down the wind break trees and abuse the fuck out of the land over a few years for great profit, and then turn it into McMansions.

5. One guy in the documentary was beside himself
because it appeared that HE would be the one to lose the family farm..after 5 generations..Not because he was a bad farmer, but because property tax and low prices paid to him for his crops were eating him alive.

3. This documentary should be required watching in schools.
But of course, in "Pepsi-Coke" schools, it would never be allowed because it does not support "Frankenfood production".
