Inspired by EarlG's wonderful front page post the other day... My local papers have already had LTTEs printed knocking the partisan funeral, right on cue from OxyRush. Please comment & critique. Thanks
>>> I am furious at the unmitigated gall the Republican attack machine has shown with their mock outrage over some political statements made at the funeral of Coretta Scott King.
How was condemning the lies that got us into the Iraq war showing disrespect to a woman who was a passionate peace activist? If the funeral attendees thought it was not fitting, why did they give Rev. Lowery such a long standing ovation for his words?
How was criticizing the illegal wiretapping of American citizens showing disrespect to a woman who was, herself, spied upon by J. Edgar Hoover's FBI? It was partly that abuse of power by Hoover that led to the passage of FISA in 1978.
How was reminding Americans that the already nearly forgotten Katrina victims were mostly poor and black showing disrespect to a woman that spent a lifetime fighting for the poor and the black?
How is it those rich white Republican elitists like Rush Limbaugh can claim to know what is appropriate for the funeral of a black woman who spent decades standing for values that Limbaugh, and his ilk, have been trying their best to denigrate and destroy?
