Did Keith Olbermann chicken out?
On Wednesday's Countdown there was a lead-in for a Thursday story on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors impeachment resolution. I didn't see anything about it last night. Did Brittney's baby abuse trump a real story or did the brass at NBC lay the law down?

1. After his show last night...
you can dare to suggest that he might "chicken out"?

13. Don't get me wrong. I love KO.
I think he has proven that it takes a sportscaster to cut through the crap that other supposed journalists won't deal with. I was just diappointed that what was suposed to be the feature story did not air. I'm amazed that he is still going strong on same network that harbors Tweety, Tucker and Rita.

2. Britney? Ugh!
Why is the Britney story such a big deal? It's not like the woman has ever demonstrated any real intelligence. Her only real political statement was "Like, we should support the President" while chewing gum!

4. i dont think so
his producers regularly make him change his stories to celebrity bullshit - he even says so on the air

AND - his sign-off last night was something to the effect of - Have a good night - the 1015th day since the Mission Accomplished declaration in the War in Iraq - definitely paraphrasing there but he used the 1015 days since mission accomplished - and I had to ask my partner if he heard it to! KO rocks

5. neither would be my guess
the fake terror story and the Libby/Cheney stuff probably crowded it out. The only times he drops the fluffier stories are when there's breaking news or when he spends the whole hour on a major story.

10. Awww, C'mon... Didn't you hear her? She was...

... trying to keep her baby safe from the Paparazzi... I guess in Britney's world, this would be keeping your baby safe... I guess anywhere out of Papa KFed's hands would be safer...

11. Preventing her baby from from being photographed
Edited on Fri Feb-10-06 01:16 PM by rocknation
versus preventing him from not going through the windsheild--that's a tough decision, all right. Notice, also, that she's not wearing her seatbelt!

15. Good catch.
I wonder why so many people think seat belts and car seats are totally optional if not even necessary. Perhaps we could term them the thoughtless class.

17. Hmm, manufactured popwhore drives her own car with her offspring
in her lap, risking both of their lives should something happen. Where's the problem?

16. Keith stunned me with his courage
When he looked down, kind of sighed, and went into this exchange:

"OLBERMANN: We have talked before, with deep sadness, about the politicizing of counterterror measures here. You have just put this into a political context. My stomach is queasy as I ask this. In the context of this today, and what you have seen, are we far enough removed from that component of the novel “1984,” the part where the government turns a kind of terror faucet on and off to scare the public into acquiescing to whatever it wants to do?

POSNER: Lookit, I‘m afraid we are, unfortunately, at that point, where—we are in a real war, there‘s no question about it. We have fundamentalists out there who would love to kill more innocent Americans in vast numbers. They‘d love to pull off a weapon of mass destruction attack.

But at the same time, the government is also very effective, the Bush administration, at using terror as a political weapon and making sure that it does turn on the fear spigot when it wants to and turn it off at other times."

Keith, the Courageous One.
