Bush Reveals Rationale Behind Surveillance

By JENNIFER LOVEN, Associated Press Writer 4 minutes ago

CAMBRIDGE, Md. -
President Bush defended his warrantless eavesdropping program Friday, saying during what he thought were private remarks that he concluded that spying on Americans was necessary to fill a gap in the United States' security.

That is a clear admission he broke the law. 100% Crystal Clear.

1. Is paranoia a sign of dry alcoholism?
There is no other explanation for this moran's behavior, is there? I hope they have that on tape because THAT would be the perfect Dem ad for any candidate!

2. how does the AP know Bush thought these were private remarks?
much more likely is that Bush very much intended this to get out, and thinks that if it appears it came out inadvertently it will be more credible.

The AP should have said, "in remarks that the Bush administration CLAIMS were intended to be private remarks."

8. Like when he called a reporter a "big asshole" at a campaign
rally in 2004? He and Kerry were both caught with their mics on then, why not now? It could be true, couldn't it?

I have no knowledge one way or the other, but maybe I just want to believe he was caught with his pants down once again.

11. by the clear admission that he IS spying on Americans and not
just AQ members. I think he might have blown the lid off it all by himself maybe.

6. I smell that nasty, noxious odor of Rove all over this one.
According the the news report on Yahoo!, the boy king didn't say anything much different than he has been saying on the record. I suspect this is a Rovian tactic to trick the sheeple into thinking Bush might be right afterall since he's saying the same thing when he thinks it is "not being recorded" as when he's on the record.

Gonna have to come up with a better bait and switch game, KKKarl.

14. I agree. This sounds staged. What about the Quakers? Did
they have ties to al Qaeda? Is he protecting the country or his political agenda?

10. No way that they "forgot" to turn the mic's off in the White House Press
Corps room.

Give me a break. They set them up. Hook, line and sinker.

12. The whole story smells to me. How many times has
* been caught on a microphone he thought was dead? Almost never. He usually makes his blunders in front of the press corp. This is spin so his minions and followers can say he thinks about these things. I am of the opinion it was all staged. He already admitted he broke the law. He is preaching to his choir trying to stop the defections. What went on after the mic was turned off is where the story is.

he's trying to protect us, so all the secret stuff is necessary.

Edited to note that the brief video I saw of him at the event, he seemed unusually "antsy" while being introduced. Kind of like he couldn't wait to take part in the scheme. Get his Preznident'n on.

16. Bush "reveals" that he means well
here's Bush at his most "candid":

"I take my oath of office seriously. I swear to uphold the Constitution and laws of the United States," Bush said.
