Adrenaline Junkies : SHAMELESS Advertising by the Navy
Edited on Sat Feb-11-06 12:29 AM by Ava

My brother (who will turn 18 later this month) recieved the letter shown above in the mail today. I know that I cannot be the only person disgusted by this shameless advertising by the navy. 2,267 U.S. troops have died in a war that the administration lied about. Were those innocent men and women "Adrenaline Junkies"?

1. Mixed emotions here...
I don't think you're wrong for feeling the way you do, however, it's still a volunteer military. I was in the Air Force for 8 of the best years of my life. I never served under GWB and never would, but military service can truly be something special. Having said all that, I would discourage ANYONE from joining the military today...at least for now. If one really feels the calling, please join the Air Force or Navy. Get a great education like I did. Hell, get your Bachelors degree like I did. Make it count, and pick a job that keeps you as safe as possible. My only real brush with danger would have been the Khobar Towers bombing in '96.

PEACE

2. i have family
members in the navy, one of them has been to iraq twice. i just think it's very insensitive to call members of the navy "adrenaline junkies" during a time of war when thousands of troops have died.

3. Get enough
young men who feel the need to prove their manhood, are afraid of being called a coward, are poor, have no viable alternative, or wish to "be the first kid on my block to get a confirmed kill" and you have your all volunteer military.

What gets to me is the money spent on Military advertising! This Adrenaline Junkie ad campaign didn't pop out of the head of some Chief or Corpsman, this cost the DoD millions. Millions. Meaning it costs us millions. So, in effect we are paying th government to lie and bedazzle us into serving and dying.

Hell, I did the Few the Proud. Fortunately, being old and therefore having an identity, they couldn't "instill" the change is forever Mo-tard identity into me...

8. I agree--we are paying them to lure our young people into military
service for a government that is lying to them and us.

This kind of advertising is directly aimed at impressionable young kids who don't have many options, or may feel like they have few options, in life right now.
