I just saw the most super-patriotic car in America
Pulling into a supermarket parking lot, I parked near a car with more bumper stickers than you could fit on an 18-wheeler. Aside from the two American flags fluttering on each side, there must have been 20 stickers displayed on the rear bumper and the back of the trunk lid.

They included: Support Our Troops; WWII Veteran; Proud To Be An American; God Bless The USA; Liberty Is Not Free; United We Stand; a king-sized flag decal on the trunk; a bunch of WWII stickers that looked like patches from different army units, a half dozen more stickers which I can't remember what they said; and of course, Bush/Cheney 04.

Inside the super market, I spotted an elderly man whom I was sure was the car's owner. He was wearing a khaki shirt with epaulets and a camouflage colored baseball cap with an American flag patch. I left the market in time to see him getting into the car.

Some say that age brings wisdom, but I shudder to think what goes through the mind of this poor soul.

22. Wow, how open minded of you.
Just because this man doesn't espouse all the ideas you do, he's automatically a wife-beater.

Judgemental much?:wtf:

42. Excuse me?
I don't believe that you have the right to judge anyone based solely on the bumperstickers on their cars. If someone did that to you, you'd probably be screaming your head off about how unenlightened the person was.

Is free speech for everyone...or only those you agree with?

7. I don't believe that applies here. This person was in WWII, but he
evidently forgot what he fought for.

Then again, WWII vets that I've met over the years tend not to want to talk about it and don't feel the need to announce it all over their cars.

Funny story, Cyrano.

I was behind an Expedition the other day and the entire back window was a flag and an eagle picture. Shouldn't something like that be against the law? Affects the ability to see in back?

if it has a passenger side mirror it isn't necessarily required that the rear view be free of obstruction... this is why trucks are allowed canopies and campers.

8. Probably He Suffered From PTSD And Was Never Treated
and now is very confused in his old age, with patriotism, being betrayed by his government after WW2 (did the VA treat PTSD after WW2? They did, combat fatigue, and they were shunned for seeking help for it)

After the parades, did WW2 veterans all settle into society and have jobs, etc.? No, many had hard times, suffering from PTSD, addictions, unemployment, and a country that had little to offer them for their sacrifice.

With that said, I think this rigidity is partly responsible for the generation of witless morans who voted for *, think he's doing a great job, and believe the government.

Edited on Sat Feb-11-06 04:56 PM by Cyrano
refer to true patriotism. A super patriot is usually someone who has a need to demonstrate a "holier than thou" attitude toward his/her country.

15. You must live near me!!
There is a van here covered with ribbon magnets, and sprouting support the troops flags, FLAGS!!!!!

Once I pulled into the supermarket parking lot right beside this car and the owner was getting out, a 35ish guy. I commented rather generically on the car ie "gee a lot of stickers there, etc"...then I asked him when he was planning to enlist to support the cause.

Funny, he didn't answer me.

24. There was one exactly like that in my area right after 9/11.
A giant American flag right next to a giant confederate flag in the back of his pickup -- Florida license plate.

After a few days, the confederate flag was gone. Who knows why? Maybe someone kicked his ass, or took a shot at his truck. Southeast FL isn't exactly redneck country.

30. Everyone wants to root for a winning team
One thing that I have noticed...

Republicans appeal to people who find it important that "America is #1" and that type of thing.

This is going off-topic, but besides ripping the GOP for their very obvious screwups, the Democrats must also always confirm a positive message too. "It's all going down the toilet" turns some people off. I'm not saying that the Dems should subsitute pap for substance.. I'm also not saying 'Go for the swing voter' (I think that's a red herring). But the message needs a current of positivity too... the message can't be all doom and gloom... even if that's the state of the world... because people want to vote for 'an America that wins'.

Know what I mean?
