"Creationism Evangelism." We live in strange times indeed. Check this out
*Whew* - We live in strange times. "Were you there?" What kind of absurd argument is that? I wasn't around when World War II happened, either - Does that mean it didn't happen? No wonder Bush gets away with cuts in science funding. Whacked. This clown better not be preaching in any public schools.

Their Own Version of a Big Bang
Those who believe in creationism -- children and adults -- are being taught to challenge evolution's tenets in an in-your-face way.
By Stephanie Simon
Times Staff Writer

February 11, 2006

WAYNE, N.J. — Evangelist Ken Ham smiled at the 2,300 elementary students packed into pews, their faces rapt. With dinosaur puppets and silly cartoons, he was training them to reject much of geology, paleontology and evolutionary biology as a sinister tangle of lies.

"Boys and girls," Ham said. If a teacher so much as mentions evolution, or the Big Bang, or an era when dinosaurs ruled the Earth, "you put your hand up and you say, 'Excuse me, were you there?' Can you remember that?"

The children roared their assent.

"Sometimes people will answer, 'No, but you weren't there either,' " Ham told them. "Then you say, 'No, I wasn't, but I know someone who was, and I have his book about the history of the world.' " He waved his Bible in the air.

"Who's the only one who's always been there?" Ham asked.

"God!" the boys and girls shouted.

"Who's the only one who knows everything?"

"God!"

"So who should you always trust, God or the scientists?"

The children answered with a thundering: "God!"

1. Believe in absolutes and the only guarantee
you have is that you're likely to be wrong.

3. This is sickening.
Don't trust scientists, don't trust evidence. There has got to be a special place in hell for people like this. Brainwashing at it's finest.

9. I can answer that. Profit. Otherwise, no difference.
Here's a quote from the article. Surprise, surprise:

Ham encourages people to further their research with the dozens of books and DVDs sold by his ministry.

5. Obviously, this man was never an educator
But it's time we label these crazies for who they really are - cultists who are as dangerous as satanic worshippers and the Jimmy Jones kool-aid drinkers. If I had a student pulling that crap on me, I'd ask them how they know God was there too. . .and if SHE must have liked dinos better than humans because she didn't bother with us until so much later.

11. It's sad to see someone's faith based entirely on bad science.
My sympathies. I do not understand people like your mother, whose faith is totally dependent on a literal reading of Genesis. Period. Very strange. Tell Mom she ought to read the New Testament, too, once in a while.

15. I have pointed out that Jesus came to give the 'NEW Testament'
So that his followers would understand the true path. For all intents and purposes she sticks her fingers in her ears and goes "la-la-la-la...").

16. We can't choose our parents. Must be frustrating, but oh well.
I hope the other aspects of your relationship are sound. What the heck; don't sweat the family stuff you can't control. Thanks for sharing.

17. You know, if these jerks really believe their own crap...
...are they also against medicine? Do they refuse to let their children be vaccinated? Do they turn down flu shots? They should reject such heretical, science-based fantasies. That would free up limited health care resources for the rest of us.
