I think the stem cell issue could become a very effective wedge
issue for us. I bet the overwhelming majority of Dems and independents support it, while the Puggies are likely to be very divided. For example, Orrin Hatch--believe it or not--supports stem cell work, while a lot of fundies don't. The issue needs to be handled with some delicacy, of course, but I think this is exactly the kind of issue we could turn to our advantage if we were to take a page out of the Wingnut playbook. There are no doubt a fair number of issues like this that we could legitimately use to energize a majority while fracturing the hardcore opposition.

1. Good point.
I can think of several big name repugs who have flip-flopped all over the stem-cell issue. Bill Frist and George Allen come to mind.

2. how about including reopening 911? with so many new researchers
denouncing the 911 report its worth a new look. These scholars are no tin pot theorists..their professors, engineers, some from NASA and besides there are 100 million people not satisfied with the omissions and distortions report submitted by,.. Tom Ludicrous Kean

3. Death Bed Issues too
Witness the Schiavo fiasco and that vast majority of Americans don't want government and a bunch of religious extremists forcing their views on them. It is a PRIVATE matter and nobody has the right to intrude. I even heard some calling for the abolishment of LIVING WILLS. Can you believe that one?

4. during the debate - the polls were showing 70% of Americans
in favor of the research. Even after they trotted the Snowflake Babies out.

6. Dr. Fristenstein supports stem cell research, all of the sudden
Forgot that he supported it for years, but when he started planning a Presidential run, he thought it would be a good idea to come out in support of stem cell research. Of course, that "insider trading" thing might get in the way, but...

I do agree with you. The issues could/should put the GOP back on their heels. This is what people are talking aobut, when they say Democrats need to be for things, instead of merely being against Republicans.
