It's snowing . . . you know that, don't you?
Just switched the tube on to watch Stephanopoulos and what do I find? Wall-to-wall "team coverage" of this freaking snow storm. It's snow . . . SNOW! Get a grip. If it was snow in Miami, maybe I could understand the excitement, but it's snow in the northeast. The media defies belief. Every channel covering the Sunday morning political shows has "team coverage." I'm verklempt.

1. You say Libby got Cheney's permission to leak about Plame?
No, I didn't--it's SNOWING!

2. It's about the only blizzard.. and snow.. we've had all year. They are, in
effect, reporting on the uncommon occurence of our normal weather patterns.

Still, blizzards can be dangerous, esp for drivers. Might not merit coverage on George's show but worth alerting folks to the conditions.

Hasn't hit my part of Maine yet. Guess it's mvoing kinda slow.

4. Well get ready.
It started snowing heavily here around 9:00 and hasn't stopped. It's very pretty though. At least from the perspective of our apartment. The courtyard behind us is covered in about a foot of snow and the tree branches are all bowing down from the weight. I am just glad I was up early yesterday and got everything done by 2:00 p.m. because the beau went for a last minute something at the store and said it was a mob scene at 6:00 p.m.

6. It always cracks me up we all panic and go out to the store as if
we're going to be holed up for days.

Right now in the Hudson Valley, it's snowing and has been snowing. I estimate that we've gotten about 6-7". I'm sure we'll be plowed out in a matter of hours, just in time for us to drive an hour for an indoor soccer game :)

We still have electricity and the satellite TV. The house is warm. The dog has peed. Girls are sleeping. All is well with the world.

I know. I grew up in the Midwest and snow like this was common. I can't wait to go out and play in the park. :-)

15. Amen Brother!!!!!
I know exactly what you mean. We got about a foot last night, but no one around here will bother to measure. Of course there was already about a foot on the ground.

We prepared. My wife brought in some firewood yesterday. The thing is I'm about out of Pepsi. Guess I'll run down to the store .... about 7 un-plowed miles from here, which is no big deal either. Maybe I can get one of the kids to go for me. They love driving in new snow, I simply enjoy it.

I have to laugh like hell everytime it snows a couple of inches over on the coast. Everywhere from Boston to Norfolk they panic. The Weather Channel acts like its a sky-born tsunami in white and CNN reflects on the end of the world. Every single time.

Bwahahahahahahahahahah

26. Well, I don't know that it's quite that common.
Here on the east coast (I'm 90 miles from Manhattan) I don't think anyone is panicking at all. TWC makes it look that way (it's their bread and butter, after all), but from New Jersey through Maine, we're quite prepared for snow. I mean...it snows here every winter. No one is really shocked.

When we lived in the midwest (Indiana and Illinois) it was no great shakes when it snowed because the roads were generally straight and flat. The worst thing that could happen is that you'd drift into a ditch (and plenty of people did so, or so we saw when we lived there). Here where I live, it's hilly to mountainous, with plenty of old, curved, hilly roads and lots of trees on the sides of those roads. Different situation entirely. Still, we've been plowed, our streets are plowed, and people are out and about.

What's different about this snow is I believe it's the worst blizzard in NYC in a very long time.

Everyone will be at work tomorrow, however.

12. Does anyone have the satellite pix of
the blizzard. I heard one person say that it looks like a hurricane with an eye and winds are as high as 60mph. They said this was very unusual but may have something to do with a much warmer Atlantic.

but that's a lot of bad weather. Thanks

Anyway they're saying that Central Park officials report that only the 1947 blizzard had more snow than this one (since records were kept), so clearly it's a serious storm.
The good news is that MTP will be on in a few minutes.

Edit add.

A bunch of weather people standing outside in the snow sticking bright rulers in it to prove just how bad it is. The actually preempt other shows to keep repeating the same crap every 5 minutes.

But here is Pennsylvania along 1-95 some of us elderly people are alone, and maybe frightened that help would not get to us if we needed it, 18" of the white stuff does strange things to you! And, add to that, those of us waiting for the return of family from Lake Placid, New York, ordinarily a 7 hour drive.............could take 14 hours...I bet lots of folks will be up all night waiting............worrying...........
so, no, it isn't "crap" to everyone.

11. Technically there is a Blizzard Warning.
Which means it's severe weather. Other types of severe weather are tornado's, hurricanes, major thunderstorms, volcano eruption, etc. Now the chances of getting killed in a Blizzard in the NE because of lack of shelter or sudden changes in weather are few, but it is still technically severe weather.

13. Does it warrant continuous coverage where they are talking about nothing
Give 5 mn reports every 30 mns and use breaking news if something really happens. But frankly, they say nothing the could not write at the bottom of the screen.

25. I should have mentioned that I'm in southern New Hampshire.
We usually get snow . . . lots of snow . . . and there are times it is frightening. BUT . . . there is no need for "team coverage 24/7." Five minutes every half hour and the scroll on the bottom of the screen would be more than sufficient unless the end of the world is upon us. By the way, watch for "breaking news." The sun was trying to come out a little while ago.

There was a flurry about an hour ago. The sun came out and that was the end of it. I was really hoping for something a little heavier. We only get about one snowfall a year here, so I enjoy it while it's here.

Beautiful diversion, anyway. But I have to go drive in it. Blah....

31. I lost my fear of driving in it several winters ago in Omaha
after noticing that the people with Nebraska tags (I still had Georgia plates at the time) were sliding around just about as much as I was. (The folks up there still gave me an extra-wide berth after they noticed where I was from, though.)

Thing is, in Omaha (and, I imagine most parts of the northeast), you get snow on top of snow. In Atlanta, you tend to get snow on top of ice. I've seen experienced snowdrivers from the northeast and midwest spin out and ding lots of things (much hilarity ensued) because they didn't realize that.

But, okay, I've seen all two weeks of winter 2005-06 now. I'm ready for spring. Tomorrow would be nice.

This is what the media has transgressed into. Sensationalized 24 hr live tabloids for weather patterns.

Just to add before someone bites my ass off.

Katrina has a legit story but standing outside in the rain like an idiot.. there is no excuse for that.
