Actually, some of yours are pretty funny, too. The difference is, we don't think Cheney is normally funny at all. Not by a long shot (oops, I said shot. . .) Glad to see y'all are visiting here so much today.

I hope this post reproduced below isn't representative of FReeperdom thinking. It's almost as bad as applauding that creationism guy the last couple of days who encouraged kids to challenge evolution teachers by asking them if they "were there." C'mon, really now. . . (also, "fart in church?" Does that happen with you guys?)

To: Thanatos
Hello,

1st, I am glad to hear the man is OK. 2nd: Here is my prediction re: this accident:

The Dims and the media will not be able to control themselves in slamming the VP, hunting (for poor defenseless animals) and guns. The will lose it over this one. This will play well on the Liberal Coasts and with Leno's audience.
However, this will go over like a fart in church in states like Ohio, where hunting is an important part of life. And just as in 2004, Ohio and other Midwest states will be extremely important in 2008.
This could end up being the outdoor equivalent of the Wellstone Memorial/King Funeral Political Rally.

Glad to be here, MOgirl

1. There has been NO BACKLASH from the King funeral.
Take that FReepers. Cheney will be the laughing stalk of the town.

4. I've already read "accidents happen" on a couple
conservative boards.

They will forgive this asshole of anything. Even, apparently, nearly personally killing another human being.

18. Ah, but just imagine
if a liberal had done the shooting. Just imagine the spiteful howling and braying. O'Reilly and Limbaugh would be chomping at the bit to get their rants in. Too bad, guys. It's one of your own. So, instead, you'll have to sputter the lame "accidents happen" lines.

5. Cheney and Whittington will be even better friends... :)
To: MOgirl
Correct, accidents like this happen a lot and usually create bonds with people over it as long as no one is seriously hurt, which is the case with bird pellets

Fox was just reporting that the victim was "at fault" in the accident. He came up from behind of the VP and didn;t signal. The VP didn't see him.

So rumors that Cheney shot Dan Quayle are wrong?

6. Some intentionally clever (if warped), others don't get it, even funnier.
To these future Camp Guards, I at least acknowledge that some have a droll sense of humor, and methinks see the humor of the kind of posters you cite - as sometimes, if not as often, happens here.

11. He came up behind Cheney?
So then what happened? Dick thought Wittington was a bird and he turned around and shot him? Was the guy flapping his arms or making chirping noises? Did he mistake him for an evil doer? I am having a hard time visualizing this.

17. Maybe Cheney was afraid of a "Brokeback"
episode. The two are longtime friends who enjoy the outdoors together....maybe Cheney's stifled emotions got the better of him. He just didn't know "how to quit" Wittington. So. He prematurely fired.

9. Maybe Cheney and his companions
are getting a little too old to be hunting in the first place? Reflexes slowed, eyesight dimmed, and mind not quite as sharp as it once was?

Only the most radical folk disdain hunting completely, though I personally don't understand it as a form of recreation. As a way to supplement one's larder, it's one thing. But the idle rich hardly need to do so.

I find this an example of irresponsible behavior on the part of the hunting party--Cheney and his victim in particular. One of the absolutes surrounding the activity is responsible gun handling and being aware of one's surroundings.

Freepers, of all people, should comprehend that this is not really a good example of responsible citizenship or gun ownership. Isn't that the argue they level against gun control--that it infringes upon the rights of responsible gun owners?

Freepers are wearing a serious set of blinders.

12. How nice of MOgirl to speak for the entire population of Ohio.
"this will go over like a fart in church in states like Ohio, where hunting is an important part of life."

No Dim-worshipping-One, most people will not think killing 417 birds for sport is "hunting". They will be disgusted that grown men can find sport in wanton killing. You wouldn't understand that, though....that's why you post at FR.

15. and even in Ohio they don't like it when you shoot your hunting partner
they take a dim view on hunters NOT practicing safety because it could have been another hunting from another party that got the shot instead of his buddy.
