Funerals for embryos?
Turn on 60 Minutes!!

Some idiot just said instead of discarding unused embryos, we should bury them as we would any other human remains.

35. Thinking about the VA legislation last year?
That would have required women having miscarriages to report them to the police or face jail time?

Edited on Sun Feb-12-06 07:37 PM by clydefrand
And wow! those embryo crematoriums!

And think of the businesses that would be created! Teeny, tiny vessels for the ashes...give the Chinese more work...and those teensy weensy coffins, and little bitty floral arrangements for them, ah, and yes, microscopic clothes for them. The list goes on.

:bounce:  :D:

40. yeah, but that's how bizarre we need to go
So bizarre that we shock some sense into them. This is always where I go first when I'm talking to an anti-abortionist. Then follow it up with the fact that abortions weren't invented after Roe and they won't go away if Roe goes away. They'll just be illegal again, that's all. It's been a 30 year sideshow and it's time to get down to the real issue of helping children who are here and providing a future so that pregnancy doesn't look like the way to adulthood.

and his wife's miscarriage. Didn't he hold a "service" over the toilet?
It was mentioned in the book and movie Private Parts. As I recall his wife was pissed he talked about it publically on his radio show, but he explained how much he was grieving too, and found his bizzarro gross-out humor helped him.

Oh well, guess ya gotta know Stern to love him :silly:

42. 60 Minutes was fairly anti-Bu$h tonight. All three segments, IMHO.
1. The billion$ missing in Iraq, Bu$h's optional war.
2. Bu$h's ban of using federal dollars for research on those frozen embryos that will be otherwise destroyed (totally insane). Maybe he is just cutting that funding to have more $100,000 "bricks" of money to give away in Iraq.
3. The severely injured soldiers from Iraq. A damning indictment of that unnecessary war. I never though I'd live to see anything worse than Viet Nam. Now, I have.

Father First, Senator Second
For Rick Santorum, Politics Could Hardly Get More Personal

By Mark Leibovich
Washington Post Staff Writer
Monday, April 18, 2005; Page C01

In his Senate office, on a shelf next to an autographed baseball, Sen. Rick Santorum keeps a framed photo of his son Gabriel Michael, the fourth of his seven children. Named for two archangels, Gabriel Michael was born prematurely, at 20 weeks, on Oct. 11, 1996, and lived two hours outside the womb.

Upon their son's death, Rick and Karen Santorum opted not to bring his body to a funeral home. Instead, they bundled him in a blanket and drove him to Karen's parents' home in Pittsburgh. There, they spent several hours kissing and cuddling Gabriel with his three siblings, ages 6, 4 and 1 1/2. They took photos, sang lullabies in his ear and held a private Mass.

52. What got me yelling at the idiot 'ethics' guy, was is statement that
'individuals shouldn't be making these decisions (what to do with frozen embryos(destroy, donate to other couples, keep them frozen forever, or donate to stem cell research)), but 'society' should make these decisions." So not only are women incapable of decisions regarding their own bodies, now both men and women shouldn't be allowed to dispose of embryos created in a lab with their own sperm and eggs.

57. As someone who has had to bury
both of her parents, three of her brothers, three of one of those brother's children, a step-daughter, and all of my grandparents, those people make me sick. In each death, we were asked by the person giving the eulogy what thoughts we wanted expressed at the funeral service. For these sickos to equate the disposal of clumps of cells with the loss of living, breathing, feeling and loving humans, is an atrocity.

I cannot imagine a heroine like Cindy Sheehan grieving, and protesting, because of the loss of some unused embryos. Casey was her living, loving, son. He was killed because of Bush's lies, and now Bush supporters want to draw an equivalent between the people Bush has killed, and embryos. This is beyond sick to me.

feminine hygiene products?

Given that a majority of fertilized eggs either fail to implant, or are miscarried so early that no pregnancy is ever recognized, the only sensible thing is to assume that any feminine hygiene product used by a sexually active female may contain the remains of a poor dead baby. This goes for women on birth control as well, since it's well known that all birth control methods have a certain failure rate.

So, when are they going to institute mandatory funerals for used tampons and sanitary napkins? It's only right that these sacred objects should be treated with the respect they deserve.
