Bill O'Reilly thinks Jimmy Carter is a "secular progressive"?
This could be one of his silliest comments to date. Jimmy Carter is definitely on the progressive side, but he is also probably more religious than O'Reilly, Hannity, and Bush combined! Calling religious people "secular" because they don't agree with his conservative views isn't going to help O'Reilly's credibility any!

3. Yea, sure. That JC teaches Sunday School Class every week
STILL to this day, and still physically works at building homes for Habitat for Humanity means exactly that, huh?

5. O'Reilly doesn't have to worry about his credibility.
He has none.

O'Reilly's definition of secular is anything to left of the Taliban.

7. Completely agree with you, Pushed to The Left. If I wished to
consult someone on spiritual matters, President Carter is definitely on my list.

Mr. O'Reilly would not be.

Good post.

8. does O'Reilly claim to be a religious person himself?
he doesn't seem like a religious type of guy. Which is fine, but does he claim otherwise?

10. O'Reilly claims to be religious. No specifics - but he
pimps hard for what he calls "traditional values".

He calls the ACLU "the most dangerous organization in the US".

Gay marriage is a huge topic on his show.

--- I watch his miserable show for a project I am working on. He makes me sick....

17. He's into the "culture war"
Every time I hear him go on about "secular progressives" and the ACLU, it makes me glad that I'm a monthly ACLU donor! He motivates me to become more progressive.

13. Jimmy Carter believes in separation of church and state.
Edited on Sun Feb-12-06 08:58 PM by Eric J in MN
In that sense, he's a secularist.

As is Thomas Jefferson.

Calling any person "secular" is ambiguous, though, especially calling a politician "secular."

Hell, I'll wear that label proudly. Fuck Yes, I'm a Secular Progressive and a god-damn Humanist to boot. So shoot me. (I don't mean that literally, Dick.)

18. "secular" does not mean "not religious"
it means "in favor of separation of state and religion", which probably every progressive is.

19. What a morAn
O' Reilly is. Carter is the one who really started the religion thing in the Whitehouse. I remember it because it made me nervous that the line between religion and government was being blurred. I remember Carter carrying a bible around and teaching Sunday school.

20. That's O'Reilly's entire schtick
He stares right into the camera and, without blinking, tells you that the sky is orange and the moon is made of green cheese, and if you disagree, you are a secular America-hater.
