Upset by all the Cheney hunting threads?
I understand your point, but on the other hand things have just been so weird lately that a lot of folks seem to have a need to blow off steam with a bit of a jokefest. Sure, there are some importrant things going on, but I see real value in letting the light stuff run for a while. As my wife would say, my inner 9-year-old is enjoying the hell out of it.

Yes, what is Whittington's PRESENT CONDITION?
Remember this man is still in ICU.

Newflash, he's not out of danger yet, and could die.

We need to keep the pressure on the Media to do their damn job.

9. How can you not find humor in Cheney shooting his own supporter?
In shooting his cronie - in shooting a Bush/Cheney donor

It's fecking hilarious!

Besides, I can laugh at Cheney and do other things at the same time.

13. The last thing we should do is get Elitist - Intellectual -
This is a Major Scandal.

THE Scandal that can win us back The House and/or The Senate.

We need to come down from our "intellectualism" and realize that the Average American can relate to this issue better than the rest of the brewing scandals combined.

This is The Scandal that will play with The American People.

We MUST obsess on this like there's no tomorrow.

Of course I care about the other issues MORE because it effects MORE Americans.

No, I'm not disrespecting anyone - I include myself in the desire to discuss something else. However politics plays to SENSATIONALISM in the era of Info-tainment.

We have to compete in this jungle - I don't like it either but I WANT TO WIN back both the House and The Senate beyond knowing other issues need more attention - they can be properly cared for once Democrats are in the Majority.

it's a funny story - nothing more.

Save me from a world and it's people (especially the people) that don't have a sense of humor.

Save me from those who are unable to walk and chew gum at the same time - for they become zealots who insist others must suffer from the same affliction they do.

Lighten up and learn to laugh.

34. A man in Intensive Care is NOT just a funny story ...
Edited on Mon Feb-13-06 12:04 PM by ShortnFiery
This is a brewing scandal. I wrote a parody about this, so yes I can appreciate dark humor.

But after we YAK it up, there's still a man GRAVELY Ill in the Intensive Care Unit of the Corpus Christi Hospital.

Ask Whittington's immediate family if this story is funny - nothing more. I don't think they would concur albeit they are republicans.

This is a MAJOR Scandal. At least as long as Whittington remains in Intensive Care.

36. If Cheney wanted to shoot all his supporters, I wouldn't care
Edited on Mon Feb-13-06 12:15 PM by Solly Mack
but I would laugh. I'm not working up any sympathy over a Bush cronie getting shot by Cheney.

If it turns out that booze was involved - or that mysterious third hunter actually did the shooting - or even if the mysterious third hunter turns out to be Alito or Scalia - GREAT!!!! Wonderful!!!! and I'll still be laughing and I still won't care that a Bushbot got shot by Cheney.

I understand what you're saying about the things that people pay attention to - and well, if there's a scandal there, I want it exposed. But I really can't get outraged that Cheney shot his own supporter.

Remember the "Dean Scream"?
This is the first big news day and people need to keep talking about this if for no other reason than to hammer home the point that Cheney is reckless and dangerous.

I know it seems insignificant to some but so was the "Dean Scream". Remember how the right wing used Howard Dean's yell, playing it over and over for weeks until they made him an object of ridicule. That was just a yell from a presidentail candidate and here you have the VP actually shooting someone.

I think we need to keep it up.

16. There are plenty of occasions
when people are in ICU and are not critically ill or injured. He's 78 years old. That's probably the reason he's in ICU. I've read nothing to indicate his life is imperiled. What's more anyone who thinks that this is a major scandal is deluded. Finally, I'm not upset by the endless threads here, just bored by them. (And this is the first time I've commented on the incident)

26. I've worked in ICU - With true respect, you're wrong about that
Edited on Mon Feb-13-06 11:35 AM by ShortnFiery
You don't score a slot in ICU unless you're "in danger" of dying at any moment lest you be monitored 24/7. Once discharged a patient can recover quickly. HOWEVER, every patient in ICU is GRAVE while they are in THAT unit. That's a fact!

were woried about his heart, they'd put him into CCU (Cardiac Care Unit).

Nope, ICU is for people who are at risk for dying at any given moment - thus the assignment of one nurse and mutiple monitors 24/7.

I don't think there's a single DU'er who would be poking fun at this if it was being reported that the lawyer's life was anything close to being in jeopardy.

How often does a high-profile crooked Republican "accidentally" shoot another Republican in the chest and face and the victim isn't seriously injured, thank goodness.

the sun could have imploded/the Yucatan could have sunk suddenly into the ocean/every plane on radar disappeared off the screens/George Clooney announcing he was turning Republican/....and we would never have known about it as all the MSM would have talked about was the shooting. The only things that could have a chance to distract was if Brittney "mother of the year" Spears walked naked down the street; Michael Moore found dead, or Jesus was seen floating over the WH (and I am not sure about that one myself having a chance)

So, am I sick of the threads? No way

Again, if you REMAIN in ICU, you're "in danger" of organ failure and/or death. That's why you're monitored closely 24/7.
