Being blown into hamburger by Dick 'Otis' Cheney, while George 'Barney' Bush's press secretary blames the poor feeble elderly man.

15. Exactly what I was thinking!

They were waiting to see if the victim was going to die to see just how bad they were going to spin this. If he died there would only be the BushCo version. They would have spoken of what a fine man he was, BUT, it was his fault for getting in the way.

If he lived, well, that still remains to be seen. They have to see just how much of a team player he is. And surely they will impress on him and his family the value of being a team player.

6. If the Secret Service blocked the sheriff's investigation
that to me is the most outrageous part of this story. It's incredible in fact. Not even the Vice President is above the law. Any time anyone suffers a gunshot wound, even one acidentally inflicted, the police is all over it, taking the weapon into custody, searching the body of the shooter, testing for drugs or alcohol, and interviewing witnesses.

Where did you hear that the Secret Service blocked an investigation? If they did, then that's what we should be talking about most of all on DU, as it is just another example of how the Bush Administration feels the laws do not apply to them.

7. You are exactly right, Aint.
The SS is a security detail, not a palace guard.

8. "Not even the Vice President is above the law"
It seems that due to wartime authority granted to the executive branch under article 2 of the constitution, the Iraqi War Resolution and the resolution authorizing military action after 9-11, Dick Cheney is allowed to shoot anybody he wants. The executive has already asserted the authority to ignore FISA laws, to detain, torture, torture to death, and assassinate as it sees fit, why would they feel constrained by law in this case?

18. Clint Eastwood's movie "Absolute Power" would have a different ending
apparently, if it were played out in real life today. That's the film where Eastwood is a cat burglar who breaks into an apartment where he sees the U.S. President murder his mistress. If it actually happened today, the police detective played by Ed Harris would have been shot by the Secret Service or sent to Guantanamo, the police would have quietly agreed to close their file, and the story never would have surfaced. Eastwood of course would have also been "disappeared". Some movie critics claimed that the plot of "Absolute Power" was far-fetched and unbelievable in that the Secret Service in real life would never turn rogue and hunt down witnesses to the President's crime. If anything, the 1997 movie didn't go far enough as we have now entered the realm of unreality with the Bush Administration, where the Secret Service is a Praetorian Guard that doesn't have to answer to the civil authorities or to the people.

24. I didn't say they didn't try to off Eastwood in that film
I said that they would also "off" the police detective who was trying to get to the bottom of it. They would go behind the scenes to coerce the Washington police department to close their file and conduct no investigation into the murder. My point is that if the Secret Service can somehow coerce the sheriff's department into refraining from conducting a full investigation into a shooting involving the Vice President, then they're capable of anything.

You're right; they only tapped the phones of the detective and sent
a sniper to kill the suspect and (twice) try to asassinate the suspect's
daughter (a public prosecutor). They didn't try to asassinate the detective
himself.

9. Wait, refresh my memory: Who was holding the gun?
That's the person responsible for the shooting. Unless, of course, Scottie is saying that guns kill people, rather than people kill people.

walking up behind Cheney with a loaded gun.

Shouldn't quail hunters stay together in a long line?

There they are out in the woods and fields hunting with: an ambulance, a secret service detachment (black shoes and cowshit don't mix), cars (let me guess black limos or bigass suvs,) 'hunters', and 'game'. Was the helicopter perimeter in place? Was Jack Bauer nearby? Why wasn't every animal within 5 miles long gone?

Cheney swept-shot in the direction of his own party and Whittington didn't tell Cheney where he was.

33. The old dude is lucky Cheney wasn't hunting with Napalm or
Willy-P loads! Dick Cheney shooting his own people, sounds like Saddam's kind of hunting to me!

Dick prolly tried to snuff out the old guy, so the man couldn't draw his Social Security. I guess Cheney mistook the old guy dressed in the orange hunting garb, for "Big Bird"! I know that shit grows big in Texas, especially assholes, but damned 6' quail???

31. And if Whittington had accidentally shot Cheney, he would have been dead
before he hit the ground. The Secret Service would have pumped Whittington so full of lead they could have used his dick for a pencil, and not one RW shill or spokesbot would be saying, "This was all Cheney's fault."
