not getting too far ahead i hope but: HAD THEY BEEN DRINKING?
around here, this kind of shit happens at least a couple of times with each hunting season in the big woods.....in a majority of cases alcohol was involved.
a great combo: booze and firearms...

Were they drinking?
Did they party like it was 1999 the previous night?
answers! I want answers...

1. Let's demand an investigation!
They might never nail Duck! for Plamegate, but something like this captures the public's imagination.

4. LMAO
I think we can do better than this. This is so much a non story, it's comical. I've been hunting and guiding quail hunts for 25 plus years. Seems like every year somebody gets peppered, by another hunter. I've been hit many times, most everybody i know that hunts birds has been peppered at least once. No matter how hard you try to keep everybody safe, shit happens. Most bird hunters i know wear shooting glass's. They will stop most small pellets, up to #6's. Most likely he was hit with #8's or #7 1/2's.

10. I'm curious about the difference between being shot and peppered.
This sounds like more than just peppered. It sounds like he was shot. Whaddya think?

12. I still have some pellets in me, from being peppered.
At 30 plus yards small pellets like #8's and #7 1/2's have lost a substantial amount of their energy.

5. Heres an answer.
What difference does it make. It's not illegal to have a few drinks and hunt on private property.

7. You are right, TX-RAT
I think drinking and hunting are not an uncommon combo. This hoo-ha simply goes to the issue of whether the Veep is making responsible vs. impaired decisions.

8. Seeing as though the guy has a couple drunk driving convictions...
it makes a big deal if he was drinking while handling firearms. We'll never know one way or the other so it's a moot point but saying it makes no difference is just plain silly. No offense.

9. I disagree. It IS a big deal, or would be where I come from.
he did a 180 to shoot at the covey of quail.
obviously he did not take time to see what was in his line of fire.
the old guy was not merely 'peppered'
cheney put him in the hospital.
where I come from, and it is a rural area where hunting is almost universal, you shoot somebody badly enough to put them in intensive care, the sheriff's department is going to want to chat -- minimally.
there could be a 'reckless discharge' complaint if you ask me...

13. he did a 180 to shoot at the covey of quail. (Not uncommon at all)
I've had quail flush behind me many time.

Most quail hunters, if their hunting in a group, try to keep in line and about 30 yards apart. Usually when one person knocks down a bird, the line stops until it's found or go and help the other hunter find his bird. Allowing one hunter to lag behind is never a good idea. As i said before, no matter how hard you try to keep it safe, shit happens, especially when your hunting in thickets or high brush.

15. So by this logic, he is 'legally' a convicted felon, no?
Last I knew, convicted felons were not 'legally' able to posess firearms.
