Paston thinks anti-Christians buring down churches.

Ala. parishioners seek answers to arsons

Spencer's pastor, the Rev. James Posey, figures he has some idea what makes a person do such a thing. "First of all, it's a person that does not believe in Jesus," he says. "He could have atheist views, or he could be a devil worshiper, or he could be a racist, or he could hate organized religion."

Ok, it's wrong to committ arson- that really goes without saying. But perhaps it is an ARSONIST who is into buring the churches and not a athiest or "devil worshipper"... are there really even devil worshippers? I mean, come on! It's always a religious war with these people.

On behalf of Christians who really don't feel the need to push my personal, private beliefs in anyone's face, let me apologize to athiests who are offended by this type of hate-based garbage.

1. their peculiar warped view and tiny prism requires it of them
they are incapable of phrasing reality, discussing it, seeing and analysing it without their crutch. They are, in essence, brain-damaged, except they do this to themselves.

said that he could believe that it was liberals and gays burning down the churches. He's a ardently secular Catholic who calls himself a "classical liberal" (he hates the word "libertarian"). I asked him who had a history of burning down churches.

People (and I definitely include myself) are so sloppy about carelessly propagating ideas that can turn out to be really harmful. Even really smart people.

4. Well, we all know that all Good people
are Christians. So of course athiests are suspect. :eyes:

As for devil worshipers... whatever. I'm with you. I think it's largely a myth, or a goth rebel thing, not religion.

5. I think it's someone who has issues with the Southern Baptist Church
Which leads me to believe it's someone within the church, for them to have issues with it.

I don't agree with Southern Baptist theology, but I'm not a member, who cares? But if you are a member and don't like some changes, well, that can get pretty serious.

6. These are Baptist Churches in the South.
But I don't think they are members of the Southern Baptist Conference. (Especially the non-white churches.) There are many "independent" Baptist churches.

Hmmm... What if the SBC is responsible?

9. 'Red Neck' Racist Issues
Somewhere I heard these churches have mixed-race congregations. Bigots are strange people!

16. Right there with you.
Same avatar and everything. I do think it's someone who has issues with the Baptist church. Rival sect or something. Maybe someone who was thrown out of the church or a former employee.

8. Yes, Virgina, Satanists exist
As I understand the philosophy, though, they really don't care one way or another about Christianity. That is, they express a distaste for all organized religions. I know we have at least one here on DU - maybe s/he'll come by and flesh out what little I know.

And it bugs the sugar out of me that atheists are, yet again, identified as ipso facto evil. As we all know, no Christian ever sins.

10. The only people I ever heard "devil worshipper" from were these fundie
fruitcakes. If anyone here is a "devil worshipper," please clear up the misconseptions. What do you believe, what don't you believe, etc. The more we know, the better we can shut-up the know-nothing big-mouths!

13. I agree, someone from the inside
either Baptist or even more fundie, who has a particular beef with these churches. Note that no Catholic, Methodist, or other really far fundie variety churches have been affected.

Hmmmm, wonder what the cause is? What do these churches have in common? Pastors, administration, particular beliefs? The attacks do not seem random.

14. We atheists have better things to do with our time than to obsess about
Christians.

Pleeeze.

Just because he things the world revolves around his religion doesn't mean the rest of us do.
