The UN Says The USA is Using Torture At Guantanamo And Should Be Shut Down

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Five U.N. human rights experts urged the United States to shut down Guantanamo Bay after concluding the forced-feeding of prisoners and some interrogation techniques amounted to acts of torture, according to a draft report obtained on Monday.

The 38-page report, which may be revised, accused the United States of distorting international law by denying prisoners the right to due process, such as not allowing them to choose their defence lawyer and appointing hearing officers with a "minimum level of legal knowledge."

The report was first published by the Los Angeles Times in its Monday editions and obtained by Reuters. U.S. officials dismissed the report as hearsay.

The survey is the result of an 18-month investigation ordered by the U.N. Commission on Human Rights and was based on interviews by the investigators with former prisoners, their lawyers and families, but not on-site visits.

The U.N. team rejected an invitation to tour the U.S. naval base at Guantanamo, where more than 500 people have been held since the September 11, 2001, because they would not have been allowed to interview prisoners.

2. I would've been funny to see Bolton shoot coffee out his nose over this...
perhaps that stupid white mustache he sports would change to a normal human color.

3. Gitmo is the most visible of torture/psyops camps.
Imagine those "secret, SECRET" U.S. psyop torture camps. :-( Imagine. Why do you think the BushCO/neoconster controlled Justice Department is furiously seeking out the leak on that human horror?

I usually meditate rather than pray. But, I pray these tyrants get their due for violating EVERY HUMAN VALUE this nation embraces. They PREY on people.

Not sure if sanctions would work. It would be like a Kentucky coalminer boycotting the company store.

10. This action by the UN could be the vanguard of what will continue
to escalate in the future. More and more Countries and political entities will gather momentum toward thwarting the U.S.'s thuggish behavior. Ultimately, those protests could be backed up my military actions. The current administration behaves like bullies, attacking only the weak. If they were to be threatened by some serious weaponry, they would run for cover faster than field mice.

14. If there's nothing to hide, why not allow the U.N. to interview the,...
,...prisoners? I think we all know the answer to that question. x( I feel sick at what this nation has become. It's not my country. Not mine.
