Rich Greek king. Got rich by invading countries and taking their wealth. Full of himself. Wants to invade a Persian country. Consults oracle for prediction on how it will work out. Oracle tells him that a great country will be destroyed. Croesus figures he's got it in the bag. He invades. And his country is destroyed as a result. Karma blowback.
