How Many "Thanks for the Heart" posts do we need???
They're everywhere... several right on the first page. Feels like I'm wading through a kissy-poo huggy-bear swamp. I realize people want to express their gratitude, but can't we combine these thank-you's in one place? Like a post pinned at the top or something? That way they're much easier to ignore. ;)

12. Who said anything about not saying thanks?
I think thank-you's for the hearts are perfectly lovely, but they should be combined into one place instead of floating all over the place getting in the way.

7. well it is hard when someone gives you something not to say thank
you.

but i understand. so i have just jumped on other thank you threads to thank for mine. i think that we could chose to not go into them if we are tired of them. and i think this too will pass, just people having a little fun for a couple of days. it will all be over soon and we will be back to fighting our dems and each other in good order, wink

21. Now how did I know that was going to come up
Edited on Mon Feb-13-06 11:18 PM by TorchTheWitch
Personally, I think it was a mistake. It's nothing but a popularity contest. Reminicent of grammar school when we passed out valentines without a structure to avoid that... like everyone gave one to everyone else so no one got the lion's share and no one was left out. I guarantee you that pretty much everyone here is spending a lot of time comparing everyone's bag of hearts with their own... which I'm sure wasn't the point to the exercise, but that's human nature.

On Edit - ok, who's the wise-guy! thanks (ya smartass ;))

I'd like to thank whoever donated to give me a heart. I only wish I could do the same, but having recently been laid off and just starting a new job today, I'm a little strapped financially.

I just didn't want to start yet another thread thanking someone for the heart. :D

16. I get it
You see all the hearts and, heartless, you feel left out and lonely.

Then you get a heart and feel touched and included. You feel grateful, you are thankful, you say so.

We never have to open threads we don't want to read, that's the good thing.

I live in northern California and so does he. He hasn't lived in Texas for 20 years and is absolutely horrified o see the turn of thing in his home state. My mom and most of her side of the family is/was from Texas but I'm a california girl, born and bred. As he say, the political state in Texas is a damn shame.

36. Well to thank you for starting this thread
that I replied to and then got my first heart...

I will not start athread thanking the heart giver. But the heart did feel good to see there, stepping into love.

It is a silly symbol and we are sort of grown up...but it's fun to be touched by sweet silly symbols.

Like random acts of kindness, it's a good thing.

This Valentines I'm having woes with about everything, my country, my health, my family, my budget, my relationship, my car, my furnace...

But now I have a heart and it makes for a little sweeter tone to deal with it all.

So heart giver, to thank you I will post my first ever Smilie

40. What a sweet note and word that have great meaning
If we can't "put a little love in your heart", as the song says, every now and then, we are no better than those we oppose.

So, to the wonderful person who gave me a warm fuzzy feeling when they gave me heart at 11:24 tonight, I thank you. You have brought more happiness than you can imagine.

41. The real gift is in realizing how many people MIGHT have given it.
It's not often that we get to look around and consider the possibilities ... just how many kind and loving folks might really appreciate the good things they see in us, right?
:loveya:

On the other hand, I could wonder how anyone could have such bad taste to give a heart to a nutso, fat, dirty, old man like me.

49. As one of DU's "dirty old men," I must admit to being humbly stunned.
I can sure understand how the younger members of DU's "fairer sex" might accumulate the elementary-school-equivalent of a desk covered in "Secret Admirer" cards, but I'm a bit verkempt at the kind generosity in spirit of the graceful beings with whom I share this often-rough-and-tumble forum.

But if I used it generously I'd be sitting here talking to myself. It's the Hide Thread feature that's needed in this case, and I'm slogging through a minefield of cuddles and flowers shooting wildly in ever direction and they're still coming out of the woodwork.

47. here's some love poetry for DU
by Edmund Spenser

One day I wrote her name upon the strand,
But came the waves and washed it away:
Again I wrote it with a second hand,
But came the tide, and made my pains his prey.
Vain man, said she, that dost in vain assay
A mortal thing so to immortalize!
For I myself shall like to this decay,
And eek my name be wiped out likewise.
Not so (quoth I), let baser things devise
To die in dust, but you shall live by fame:
My verse your virtues rare shall eternize,
And in the heavens write your glorious name;
Where, whenas death shall all the world subdue,
Our love shall live, and later life renew.
