Just a technical note about shotshells.
Buckshot is not used for bird hunting. Bird shot is. There is a big difference. All posts stating that the recently shot Cheney friend was hit by buckshot are not accurate, unless Cheney is a bigger idiot that I gave him credit for being.

1. Smallest buckshot I am aware of is #4
which is about twice the size of BB shot. (Buck shot sizes are different from regular lead shot - #4 lead or steel shot typically used in duck shooting is much smaller than #4 buck). My guess is they were using #6 or 7-1/2 for quail. In which case he could get about 300 pellets in a 2-3/4 inch 28 ga. shell.

2. My choice for quail was 7 1/2,
back in the day when I had a 16 ga.

For buckshot I use 00, or if I can ever find it again, 000.

3. If that guy got hit with 00 buck
He be dead. Also, I am not real into guns but even I know you don't shoot Quail with buck shot. There would be no quail left.

4. It -is- confusing because even many hunters refer to ANY shot that is in
a shot(gun) shell as 'buckshot'...even down to 7.5. It's sloppy terminology but it's real common. Then there's the confusion between 'gauge' and the size of the shotshell pellets themselves which really have nothing to do with each other(except that you couldn't put a 00 slug into a 28 gauge shell)...it gets complicated. ;-)

8. I had to learn at an early age
to be exact, as my family did shotshell reloading.

I'm just a damn pellet nazi...:-)
