We must isolate and remove those that betrayed Hackett!
Schumer and Reid, are 2 of the people. They have created a right-wing strategy, with which to defeat us in the mid-term. Who the hell else thought this would be a good idea!?!

3. There is a bigger goal here!
Kick the republican assholes out of Congress first!

Then you can pay retribution to those you feel responsible.

Not trying to diminish your anguish here but focus on the big picture first. Been there felt that.

Brown is a perfectly viable candidate and votes solidly on the liberal side of the isle, it is not like they are pushing Hackett out to get a middle of the road candidate.
Sharrod Brown is the Congressman in our district and has fought very hard for our interest and will do an equally excellent job in the Senate.

6. I understand Brown is good...
but would we not be better off, if they had handled it more delicately? You know what it looks like now? Dems betray a Vet.

11. Maybe - Maybe it sends a bigger picture - The Democrats don't have
to fight it out in a Primary.
Spending money to fight each other when they can focus the effort and cash on fighting the enemy. The neo-cons.

5. That's what the DLC does, folks
They either saddle good candidates with their lobbyists turned handler and their lousy platform of upper middle class bandaid economic fixes, or they actively discourage him/her from running by sabotaging him/her at every turn.

Get real, folks. The DLC is determined to make the whole party conform to itself. As long as they hold any power at all in the party, the party will continue to be defeated and it will deserve it.

That's why I'm going to work to unseat my place holder senator this year. Yes, his votes are generally better than his right wing pubbie contemporary in the southern part of the state. However, he's caved on too many important issues to stay where he is.

We have to work on getting these guys out of office, folks, even if we have to swallow the bitter pill of seeing them replaced by pubbies for a term.

If you love what your government is doing, keep voting them in. If you hate what your government is doing, VOTE THEM OUT.

8. Hackett just quits politics altogether after one setback?
Politics may not be the best career for him. I really wonder if he had a realistic picture of political life going in. Sad, but true, politics in Washington is a shark tank. Maybe Hackett just doesn't want to swim with them!

9. I'm sad to see him go, but quitting altogether is kinda
dumb, especially when you could beat ol mean Marge next time.

13. We could've had 2 wins in Ohio if Hackett hadn't quit
Hackett had no chance for Senator as his first elective office, IMO. The polls showed that he would have lost the primary decisively.

Instead of wasting time and money on a primary, the party asked him to run to be a Rep. That's not unusual - saving the fractiousness of a primary to try to defeat both the incumbent Senator and the incumbent Representative.

I can understand Hackett saying he wouldn't go back on his word. I don't think the party expected that a politician would live up to his word. But that's politics.

16. LOL!
After months of threads from "progressive purists" demanding that the Democratic party purge its ranks of this or that candidate who fails to live up to their lofty (if somewhat vague and shifting) ideals, moderate to right wing Paul Hackett quit on his own, leaving the field for progressive Sherrod Brown (endorsed by the PDA, not the DLC) and here they are besides themselves with rage because they imagine that the purge they've been calling for occured.

"They have created a right-wing strategy"
Really? Brown is endorsed by the PDA. Do you really think the PDA is right wing?

18. How about we don't?
How is favoring the more liberal candidate a "right-wing" strategy?

I am not happy with what they did (I like primaries), but at the same time, I don't think it was bad enough to justify still more attacks on them.
