NYT: Ohio expected to rein in 'intelligent design'
Thank goodness - maybe all those reports detailing how many engineers and scientists China graduates each year sunk in with these people.

<snip>
A reversal in Ohio would be the most significant in a series of developments signaling a sea change across the country against intelligent design — which posits that life is too complex to be explained by evolution alone — since a federal judge's ruling in December that teaching the theory in the public schools of Dover, Pa., was unconstitutional.

A small rural school district in California last month quickly scuttled plans for a philosophy elective on intelligent design after being challenged by lawyers involved in the Pennsylvania case. Also last month, an Indiana lawmaker who said in November that he would introduce legislation to mandate teaching of intelligent design instead offered a watered-down bill requiring only "accuracy in textbooks." And just last week, two Democrats in Wisconsin proposed a ban on schools' teaching intelligent design as science, the first such proposal in the country.

1. Praise the Lord
Good news coming from all over. Now, the religious zealots will crank up their machine and whine about being persecuted, ie - they are not being allowed to force everyone else to believe what they believe. A religious zealot offering a bill to mandate "accuracy in textbooks??" What a chuckle!

2. Is this the right way to go (in Wisconsin, I mean)
The ban i mean? Or will that feed into Christians persecution complex? And make creationism seem more legitimate as a "banned" "science?" The story becomes not "Is Creationism legitimate science?" which has one answer but "Why shouldn't we be allowed to discuss Creationism?"

I'm kind of keying off of this post at archy ( http://johnmckay.blogspot.com/2006/02/their-hearts-are-in-right-places.html ) - i'm not in favor of teaching creationism, but not sure this is the right waqy to stop it.

7. That this is even an "issue" at all
just goes to show what a sorry state of affairs America is in.
