Shotgungate - it's the coverup, not the shooting itself
As is usually the case, it's not the actual event that is causing the uproar, it's the events afterwards. If Cheney and the WH had been honest and upfront about this from the beginning, it would probably be a non-issue. A guy gets injured on a hunting trip, big deal. We'd make a stink about it for a few days, make fun of Cheney for being careless, but it would quickly die out. Even some of the stuff being hyped - such as hunting without the proper stamp - are relatively minor issues.

Instead, we have what basically amounts to a coverup. We have the delay in reporting the shooting. We have all these conflicting reports coming out. Nobody can agree on how close Cheney was to this guy. They want us to believe that it was only a "flesh wound" caused by "peppering" - when in fact the guy had the pellets imbedded in his face, required surgery, and was in intensive care.

The real problem is that this is reflective of BushCo's presidency as a whole. This administration has done nothing but lie, obstruct, and manipulate ever since taking power. They lied about 9-11, Iraq, Iran, Katrina, the economy, and practically everything else. Why should we expect honesty from them now?

3. Why weren't the media there?
Even if they weren't invited on to the property they could have sat in a car on the road, and when the ambulance tore out of there with its lights on, at that point they'd have something to report.

(Hint: some reporters are known to pay tips to ambulance company employees and ER workers for stories)

They simply chose not to pay any attention to the VP's itinerary.

The media fucked up - its that simple.

Hey… what do you know – the GAO released a knee-smashing report on FEMA yesterday? Anybody reporting about that?

7. Apparently they didn't
stop the owner of the ranch.

Let's just say that "the media" won't be missing too many more of Chainsaw Cheney's future weekend outings.

6. Smoke screen
and it appears to be working. All the MSM is talking about is the VP shooting, and they're not keeping their eye on the ball. We have Katrina hearing, NSA hearing, Able Danger hearing start next week, you get the idea.

This VP story seems to be much to do about nothing, it should be investigated, but MSM television outlets have it 24/7. Me thinks we have bigger fish to fry!
