Texas lawyers/law enforcement: Repercussions if Whittington dies?

I was wondering if any Texas lawyers or law enforcement officers could enlighten us as to the legal repercussions if Whittington were to die from this pellet lodged in his heart. (A distinct possibility, if it goes to his brain.) Would Cheney be subject to something like manslaughter charges, or are hunting accidents exempt? Might there be an investigation to determine if the shooting was negligent? And would Cheney lose his hunting license?

Something tells me you'd have to go back to the dueling days of the early 1800s to find a similar incident, if one can even be found. Way to go, Dick.

At least as far as the "in office" part, and you're right, you have to go back to early 1800's.

As for men who shot and/or killed someone, then later became VP, I expect the last person to hold that distinction might be George H. W. Bush, a WWII veteran -- tho I'm not sure if he has any kills to his credit, or even if he flew the right kind of plane for that sort of thing.

a sitting president/vice president cannot be charged with a felony. However, a civil suit can be brought against him by the family. When he's out of office criminal charges can be brought against him...no statute of limitations on murder.

And hench, he could and should be removed by impeachment for "high crimes and misdameanors" But somehow, I doubt that this will happen. Bushco and the media will spin, the Dems will cave, and we will have the spectacle of a sitting VP getting away with murder. So much for rule of law.
