The Bush Presidency In A Single Shotgun Blast
Edited on Tue Feb-14-06 02:18 PM by Plaid Adder
I've figured out why this story is resonating. I mean, apart from the mindblowingness of the fact that the Power Behind The Throne just shot a 78 year old guy in the face--and, it now appears, in the heart.

To the rest of the world, this is what America is now: an over the hill, bloated, inconsiderate jerk toting a dangerous weapon he doesn't know how to use on the hunt for an enemy which any rational person can see poses NO threat to him--and who, in the process of missing his target, manages to maim his own allies.

And then, as EarlG so rightly points out, blames the victim.

Yeesh.

21. Peppered ain't nuthin'! ... we got BUSHWHACKED!
I used to eat raw cayenne peppers like candy when I was a little kid, and lived through numerous hurricanes, tornados and floods, but this is different. Now our port is to be run by Dubai management while carpet-baggers swindle the struggling survivors? :wtf:

I hope Bushler does NOT come to your town. :hide:

35. Actually, a wingnut I know said exactly that.
It was the hurricane victims' fault, because they didn't evacuate, and they lived in the path of a hurricane.

REPUBLICANS ARE DEVOID OF COMPASSION OF ANY KIND. REPUBLICANISM IS A DISEASE!!!

BTW, I love the way you write. You always nail it. Always. :yourock:

5. Yep, I cry for my son and they way these criminals have taken
his future from him. From all of us.

And as for the rest of the world's opinion. We don't deserve it. Truly, these people weren't elected to run our country. They just pulled a coup and took over. Twice. If there was any justice in this world... I'd better not say. People like us just might end up in a cell sooner or later, why make it sooner?

We are witnessing the death of one world view and the birth of another.

We will overcome.

27. No!
Your son's future won't be like that. We will triumph. The people WILL, eventually or sooner or later, overcome all this and we'll go on to build something much better.

You have to admit that there are institutions and practices which are not just irresponsible but morally repugnant, from our rapacious assault on the environment to our rapacious assault on the peoples of the world. These WILL be brought down. These WILL end. The future will be much better than you envision right now. And it can happen much quicker than we imagine as well.

I myself have been, and sometimes still am, extraordinarily cynical and depressed. There are times I have to get away from the computer. But I've come to know in my deepest heart that we the people will triumph and those institutions that have tried to enslave us for centuries now will die. They are, in fact, busy dying now. What we are witnessing -- and it IS painful for all -- are their death throes, and they're putting up a mighty battle to try to stay alive.

8. Whittington was a "suspected quail" - akin to a "suspected terrorist"
Asymmetrical warfare (quails aren't armed) and overwhelming force. Lives of the 'enemy' are irrelevant. Shotguns and smart bombs. Collateral damage in an attempt to kill someone/something posing absolutely no threat. Overpriced armaments: Cheney's shotgun cost something like $10,000-$15,000. The "pro-life" agenda feeds on death. A "canned hunt" is like invading a nation subjected to 12 years of sanctions and bombings.

The ideological paradigms are endless.

24. Posted A Similar Thread Yesterday, Here:
The Irony, The Symbolism, Is Quite Frankly ASTONISHING!!

Seriously, rarely (if ever!) has there been such an incident or event that totally encapsulates so richly and so completely the current state of affairs of this country, or that completely and totally in one fell swoop symbolizes this maladministration. This "Deadeye Dick" affair is really an amazingly poignant, symbolic incident.

To say that we should not pay attention to it, or that we should lay off of it, is to miss a glaring symbolic opportunity. This incident is an amazing gift. It's about as subtle as, well, a shotgun blast to the face, but it ties in to everything these criminals are about. Shooting first and asking questions later (or not). The gang that couldn't shoot straight. Being amazingly incompetent and irresposnible and not taking responsibility for ANYTHING. Cover ups and lying and guns and blaming the victim and double standards for Repubs etc. The list goes on and it works on so many levels it's quite frankly an astonishing convergence.

I mean, this thing really happened. It's mind blowing. I'm an atheist, but something like this makes one wonder if there is a god with a really terrific and twisted sense of humor.

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x403634

Indeed, as others have said, this "Deadeye Dick" incident is the perfect metaphor for Bushco. Bushco is a giant, irresponsible shotgun blast to the face of the planet.
