Katrina report angers me a lot more than Cheney's shotgun.
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A congressional report to be released this week slams the government's response to Hurricane Katrina, calling it a "failure of leadership" that left people stranded when they were most in need.

"Our investigation revealed that Katrina was a national failure, an abdication of the most solemn obligation to provide for the common welfare," the report said. "At every level -- individual, corporate, philanthropic and governmental -- we failed to meet the challenge that was Katrina. In this cautionary tale, all the little pigs built houses of straw."

The panel found that Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff was "detached" and that then-Federal Emergency Management Agency Director Michael Brown was "clueless," Shays said.

In one of the excerpts, Chertoff was chided for executing critical responsibilities "late, ineffectively or not at all."

Most of the congressional report excerpts mentioning Bush complain that he failed to receive important information. "

Basically, they conclude that everything went wrong, everyone failed, so basically no one did. They do not blame Bush for complete lack of involvement and for making no attempt to take charge of the situation. Just like with 9-11, Bush was just an innocent bystander, a victim of bad employees and bad information. No one's to blame, let's just keep our fingers crossed that it doesn't happen again.

They are describing this report as blistering. They are talking about the federal response as though it is over and there is no more obligation to the people they have failed, and all that's left to do is assign blame and move on. This is a complete whitewash, no matter how much they might wag their fingers at a few Bush employees. I'm hoping the report actually released tomorrow is more specific, but I'm not holding my breath. The two Democrats who sat in on the hearings are already calling for a real investigation.

Screw Cheney's hunting accident. One life hangs in the balance. Cheney's a piece of shit and it didn't take him shooting a buddy to convicne me of that. This is the real problem with BushCo, with the Republicans, and with the media (not that there's a difference between the three).

Just my opinion.

2.  Just so this won't happen again, Bush wants to severely cut
funding for the National Weather Bureau and also restrict information coming from federal employee's of that bureau. Nice HUH? IF we don't see a hurricane on the news it won't happen? Bill Nelson of Florida is now fighting this. Even Jeb is against it.

5. I agree with everything that you have said...
This report is very, very important and the Katrina victims are still getting screwed over by this administration.

But the event is indicative of every situation that crosses their path and that is why we can't ignore it. The little events and the big events show a very disturbing pattern with this Cabal!

<snip>
Basically, they conclude that everything went wrong, everyone failed, so basically no one did
<snip>

They never, ever are held responsible for dereliction of duty, misappropriations, poor planning, accidental shootings, destroying Medicaid, Screwing up the response to Katrina, Lying about why we went to Iraq, Valerie Plame, Lying about no child left behind, Medicaid Prescription plan....pant... and the list goes on and on.

It's true that the Cheney incident was one victim, but the victim was made a victim because of Cheney's reckless behavior with a weapon. Just as all of the above events and items have been recklessly mis-handled.

There has to be accountability and if this event starts that process then maybe we can get accountability for all of the other events and situations.

Good Rant!!

6. Chertoff off the hook for today
I was really looking forward to seeing the "ghoul" testifying today, but hearings were canceled due to some tax votes in congress. They are rescheduling when they can arrange it with Chertoff's office. Any coincidence that today they are kicking survivors out of hotels while FEMA trailers rot away unused?!?!

It's a nice way to avoid talking about Plame and the Katrina report.
