The whole idea about Hackett is that he would have WON
Remember this is Ohio - the state of mass election fraud. The Dems did not want him to run because he would have won and it would be harder to 'fix' the election. With Brown, it will be easier - I say another predictably 53 percent to 47 percent.

We all must realize that our country has been taken over by the biggest crime gang ever. And, some if not a hole bunch of our "DEMs" are part of the plan.

We better prepare for November because the exit polls will all say Dems won, but the Republicans will get the victory.

4. It's beyond that. He's gone.
If we respect anything Hackett stood for, it should be keeping his word.

He's stated that he's out for this round...in both Congressional races. I'd like to respect that and encourage him to run for office in the next cycle.

18. Yes. A leader of principle, who knows that first and foremost. . .
Edited on Wed Feb-15-06 12:25 AM by pat_k
. . . he has a duty to respect the will of the people.

He has given his word to the Democrats in the Second district that he would not run there.

I saw NOTHING in his statement about giving his word to anyone that he would not run for the Senate. If he hears from enough of us (and the pleas are backed up by contributions, however small) I believe he WOULD consider answering the call.

In any case, mounting a BRING BACK PAUL campaign is as much for us as it is for him.

Whatever the outcome, we can deomonstrate our power by stepping up and letting him -- and the DSCC -- know what WE WANT.

24. I reread his statement and, officially, you're right.
Except for "Thus ends my 11 month political career." , there's nothing that says he won't re-enter the race.

However, I'm decidedly against the whole "draft" thing....for ANY candidate. If they want the job, they'll run. I'm not going to second-guess their desisions and demand that they reconsider.

25. Candidates weigh all the factors
. . .that go into their decision. A significant demonstration of public support is one of those factors.

No one is taking the decision away from the candidate.

We are just making sure he has all the facts before making the decsion.

Our support is one of those facts.

PAUL HACKETT, We the People, Want YOU!!

27. His word is to the PEOPLE WHO ELECT HIM & the CONSTITUTION!
Not to the friggin DLC, DCCC, Schumer, Reid or any other of the politicos who are telling him he has no choice! Frankly, it is them who went back on their word! They said that they would back him, Sherrod Brown said he wasn't going to run and that he'd back Hackett!

I'd respect him more if he stood up to these bastards and said "I'm running for the people, not for you!"

9. First...
I am a hard core Democrat. But I am afraid that our 'higher ups' are compromised.

I, as an American, will support and vote for anyone (except Repuks) who are for the environment, our Constitutional Rights, and who wants our "American" team to win.

Maybe someone should start a petition. Is it too late for him to get back in? I just think it stinks. Schumer and Reid should've butted out and Hackett should've told them "hell no." *sigh*

28. Here's my letter to Paul Hackett:
Dear Mr. Hackett: Last year I was impressed w/ you and your campaign for Congress & made a donation to you. I think your an example of the kind of people this country (Democrat & Republican alike) want in elected office and that we are tired of "politics as usual". I had been planning on making a donation for your run for Senate & believe (and still believe) that you are the only one that can unseat Mike Dewine in Ohio. Our country is in danger right now and the Democrats desperately need to win control of the Senate to provide some form of checks and balances on an Executive Branch out of control. I am so sickened by the news that you have withdrawn and the idea that our so called "party" could have had anything to do with it. I make regular contributions to the DCCC....emphasis on that being now in the past. I have written them and told them my disgust and am hereby committing myself to ONLY giving money directly to the candidates of my choosing, not THEIRS! Let the PEOPLE decide who we want in office, not them! I may not be able to vote for you in Ohio, but I can donate to you and hereby pledge to donate $100 to your campaign (more if I can) if you reconsider. Don't worry about "Going back on your word" to the DCCC and Dem leadership ...frankly, they went back on their word to you. Your allegiance will always be with the Constitution and the people of this country and who elect you. Not the politico's who frankly are the reason so many don't want to enter politics. They are bullys... do not let them bully you. You have our support. You can raise the money. There are so many, like me, who had been planning on donating...we didn't realize it was as serious and that you needed it now. Please reconsider. And if you do, you have my info and I'll be happy to donate if you throw your hat back in to the fight!

:kick:

DUers: Write similar letters via his "contact us" on his website....pledge to donate whatever you can - even if its only $5.00! If he gets enough pledges, he may be able to see that he could indeed raise the money he needs and not need the DCCC etc.... Hey, this is a democracy still, right?

2. I disagree. That's only half of the issue.
The other half is that he withdrew due to the same back-room politics that we accuse Repubs of.

If Brown doesn't win, I want to see the resignations of Reid and Schumer.

What Reid and Schumer and Brown did was wrong.

5. This is a good example
of delusional thinking. Sorry, your theory is absurd. So you have a crystal ball and can state absolutely that Hackett would have won? It's possible he would have, certainly not definite. And if you actually think that dems like Schumer are part of some evil right wing plan, you probably believe that the skull and bones society is really running the world. We have an excellent chance of picking up seats in November We need to work hard to do so.

14. How's Brown on cross-party votes? (you DO realize that we need those
in Ohio)?

Republicans have a small majority in Ohio. Republicans hate Brown. Hell, not a few independant moderates don't like him. How is Brown going to get the crossover votes that ANY Dem candidate will need to win?

Hackett's polling showed that he already had them.

17. On the contrary...
my thinking is rarely 'delusional'...

You have a right to your opinion that my theory is 'absurd'. I guess you also have a crystal ball to say that it is impossible.

This is my opinion and, shucks, maybe I am right...

War vet is attractive to the right.

Or Paul could move to Connecticut and get in that Primary and crush Lieberman (if Lamont doesnt run)

8. Which is very strange
Someone told on Malloy's show that Hackett was winning in all of the polls.
So he could've easily won the primaries. It all doesn't make sense. I don't think the money is the reason either. I think there is something else too.

21. Back-room politics and broken promises.
Dem leadership ASKED Hackett to run after Brown made it very clear that he wouldn't challenge DeWine.

Three days after Hackett announced, Brown changed his mind. Guess what "our leadership" did? They ditched Hackett and backed Brown. That was three months ago. Since then, Hackett and Brown have raised roughly the same amount of money (no small feat considering Hackett's a rookie and Brown is a 30-year career politician). Brown, however, had a $2-3M war chest.

Regardless, our "leadership" had made its choice (and, depending on whom you believe, actively sabotaged Hackett's campaign). Hackett withdrew.

Is our own party fucking us? Yeah, I think that...

29. I just pledged a $100 to him....
Make sure you send that message to him via his website! Meanwhile, I couldn't agree with you more about Hackett...he would have won the primary and he would have beat Dewine...Sherrod Brown doesn't have a chance....Moderate Republicans who are fed up in Ohio with the direction this country has taken under Bush and the GOP leadership and Dewine would have voted for a Vet and Moderate Dem like Hackett...they however would never vote for a "librul" like Sherrod Brown....that isn't to say Brown isn't a committed Democrat and doesn't have the best of intentions, but he is perhaps too engrained in the DC establishment and that is in fact what I think so many Americans, Dems and Repubs alike are tired of. Hackett has what more Americans want and need....

Gawd, I hope he reconsiders...if he doesn't, then others like him will not even bother to enter the race and this particular Senate seat is not even an option or chance for America to gain back some checks and balances....

26. How does he win without a ground game?
You can go against the state or national party and win. Wellstone did, with 17,000 volunteers who were natives of Minnesota. Closer to home, Adam Smith (WA-09), by no means a progressive, used shoe leather to overcome the complete lack of backing by the state party. He still does a lot of his own canvassing, and actually listens to all constituents. Progressives effectively lobbied him to change his mind and vote against the Bankruptcy Bill. So what I'm talking about here is ORGANIZATION, not whether you are centrist or left. The only way you can get by without the national party organization is if you have your own.

The critical factor that no one except Kos seems to have noticed is that Hackett's entire campaign last year was run by employees of Sherrod Brown. Here's a clue for you--nationwide netroots supplements, but it does not substitute for local grassroots support. With no ground game, Hackett is out of it, period. If he actually had a local grassroots campaign he could tell the national Dems to stuff it, but he doesn't.
