We now know the REAL reson for the delay in reporting Cheney's hunting accident. Reports are that the Vice President has long been suffering from Multiple Personality Disorder. It appears that on Saturday he was stuck in his Holden Caulfield personality, and beleived the regular hunting hat he was wearing was actually Holden's "special" hat.

"This is a people-shooting hat," Cheney was heard to reply to those around him, repeating the line uttered by the fictional Caulfield in the classic J.D. Salinger novel Catcher In The Rye. "I shoot people in this hat."
