Is Whittington about to die?
Just saw this post: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x429117

If they've moved him out of the ICU for "privacy reasons" it could mean the ICU can no longer help him...

1. You think they'll tell us if he does?
That is an interesting move. My friend's husband was moved from the ICU to a private room when they knew there was nothing more to do for him.

CNN just said
That the docs said he is sitting up in a chair
working on some legal paper.
Very short update.

12. Legal Paper:
I hereby assume all responsibility of being lightly peppered with pellets discharged from my dearly beloved innocent leader, Dick Cheney.
My family hereby waives the right to sue Cheney in the event of my death.
Thank you, dearly beloved leader for this fine fat check to my family. Although I have not been in any pain at all, or suffering of any kind, it was so very thoughtful to provide us with this check.
My family will also not speak to the press or anyone at all concerning the details of my ever so slight peppering.

2. If he's in hospice, no doubt Frist will be issuing a remote diagnosis
at any time. Stay tuned.

3. It's a cryptic post.
I took it to mean that they were saying he isn't in ICU for medical reasons; that he is in ICU for privacy reasons.

The poster did not provide a link.

5. That's true. That's what they did with my dad.
When it was known they could do no more to help him, they moved him to a private room to die in peace and in privace with his family. You could be right. Now he has lead in his liver. That can't be good. PLUS, he's 78 years old. His body isn't going to react like a 30 year old body.

8. He has lead in his liver?
Oh no. I hadn't heard that. Was it on the news? I was working all morning, and heard nothing. That is awful.

My dad is 80. I can't help but think of him in the same situation. He would be too fragile to withstand such a thing.

20. Slate said two pellets in larynx, one in liver.
Leading me to ask questions about all that laughing, joking, and talking.

If he were about to die, I don't think we'd be hearing he's sitting up. They'd be gradually preparing us.

27. So what did they do with the one lodged in his heart?
You know, lead is a very slow-acting poison, as I understand it. Not sure the lead will affect him nearly as much as the pellet lodged somewhere in his heart. Last I heard they didn't even know precisely where in his heart.

Seems to me, that one good sneeze and that pellet could perhaps become dislodged. What damage might it do then? How can they ever be sure?

10. He will stay alive long enough
To die from complications from something other than the gun shot wounds. That way Dick wont be held directly responsible. If he would have died right away we could say he killed him. Now it will look more natural. Did that make sense?

15. Isn't this sad?
And to the White House, Mr. Whittington is just a "problem situation" now. Get him the best doctors so he doesn't die. How are we going to spin this? Maybe we should get a focus group. Does this open the White House to investigation. We need a plausible lie for Scott Mclelland this afternoon.

24. No... it's more like: get him OUR doctors so we can control the spin.
These are the same doctors who never release W's annual physicals and check Cheney into remote Hospitals in Colorado to treat the heart attacks his knees are having. :eyes:

7. Jesus, the ICU is an INTENSIVE CARE UNIT, think
Edited on Wed Feb-15-06 01:28 PM by rustydog
If he is moved out, that means he no longer needs the intensive care.
If he was beyond hope, they would keep him there until he passed.

Unless it is a prolonged passing, then transferring to a patient room or hospice would be an option.

How do I know, I've worked in hospitals since 1979 and have seen hundreds die in the ICU and thousands transferred out when they no longer needed the care. How do I know?, I've been there when the doctor apologized, unplugged the respirator and watched the heart stop beating too many times to count.

My sister in law died in the ICU Monday just hours after the doctor told her husband he could not save her...they did not transfer her our to die...
any questions?

14. I've been involved in security for Cheny's visit to our area
the ICU is an excellent place because it is a secure unit. it makes sense to keep the victim there.

13. "For privacy reasons" is why a VIP goes INTO the ICU
until the hospital and the local cops can set up some sort of security permiter around a private room on an ordinary medical floor.

I can't see this being cited as a reason unles he is gravely ill and has decided against heroics. Most ICUs have all private rooms and privacy isn't an issue.
