Knocking on Antonin's Door (please help)
Condi, take this badge off of me
I can't use in every place.
It was getting dark, too dark to see
I feel sorry for shooting Whit in the face.

Knock, knock, knocking beer back for lunch
Knock, knock, knocking beer back for lunch
Knock, knock, knocking beer back for lunch
Knock, knock knocing beer back for lunch.

Condi, put my guns in the ground
I can't shoot friends anymore.
That special prosecutor keeps comin' 'round
I feel I'm knocking on Antonin's door.

Knock, knock, knocking beer back for lunch
Knock, knock, knocking beer back for lunch
Knock, knock, knocking beer back for lunch
Knock, knock, knocking beer back for lunch.

Okay, DUers, Dick Cheney has admitted drinking one beer for lunch, hours before he recklessly shot his friend in the face. The way I see it, if a guy with a couple DWI convictions has an auto accident, blames a passenger he injures, hides from police until the next day, pressures another passenger to tell a "cover story," and four days later "admits" he had one beer at lunch .... who are we to question him? We should be singing this old Zimmerman tune instead. Sing for Dick Cheney.

Free Dick Cheney!

and snarfing is best done during the chorus.

And a one, and a two, and a three .... and it doesn't look like many DUers want to sing today....

35. I've never been able to write lyrics, not even parody lyrics,
not good ones, anyway. But if I could I'd run with an idea I might have ripped off from another DU poster and do and Aerosmith parody called "Cheney's Got A Gun."

Little Dick Cheney stood with his lady
An ambassador easy to lay
The doc put in his thumb, cleaning shot from a gun
and Dick said "What a good aim have I!"

I have kept everything Rubin has given me over the years, from rare photos, the tapes he used to write his first book (The 16th Round), and many other things. On a less serious note, though, doesn't this picture look like Cheney punching a certain senator?

I'm doing an article for a paper on the Hurricane, and am getting out some of my old photos that he sent me. Here's another, the follow-up to the first one versus Fernandez .... Rubin's first televised Friday Night Fight .... he was supposed to be a "warm up" for the top contender, but instead, took him out in 69 seconds. Brutal fight; ESPN Classic has a great clip of it on their Carter biography.

20. Knock, Knock, Knocking On Heaven's Door

Lynne Cheney went into a pet store and saw a fabulous parrot with a price tag of only $50. She asked why so little. The pet store owner replied that the bird's former home was a house of ill repute and his language was questionable. Lynne didn't care and bought the parrot anyway. She brought it home and when the cover was lifted from the cage the parrot looked around and said. "New house, new madam." Lynne laughed it off. Then the daughters cam home and the parrot looked at them and said, "New house, new girls".They laughed it off again Later Cheney came home, the parrot looked at him and said, "Dick!"

26. Okay, folks, let's think
for a minute! Now we have some evidence that his Honesty the Vice President may not have told the truth, the full truth, or nothing close to the truth here. On the Fox interview, he'll be asked about the "30 yards." He responds that he didn't measure it, but it seems about right. First of all, the pattern of wounds, plus one pellet going through his vest and skin and entering his flesh deep enough to be next to his heart, indicates he was less than 30 yards away.

Next: please get out a sheet of paper. A standard 8 1/2 by 11 inch will do. At the top, draw three people in a line, with say an inch or two between them. Next, think that the 4th hunter had been in the line, but ended up behind them as he grabbed a bird he shot. According to the three hunters, this guy then comes up behind the three, but doesn't announce his being there.

Cheney claims he then turned to shoot a bird taking flight, and hit his friend walking up behind him. The obvious question is where was the bird? Did it hide under a rock as the three walked past, then jump up and take flight? Birds get flushed as you come up to them, or at the sides of your line.

Maybe I'm missing something. But I think the cover story is full of shit.

27. Correct Me If I'm Mistaken
as I'm no hunter, but given your suggested diagram, wouldn't he also have either of the two others in his line of fire as he turned? One beer? Ok, that's probably true, as that is an interview strategy, making sure whatever you say is true, for as far as it goes. But my questions become, was the beer the chaser, did you also have wine?

Also, it was mentioned on CBS that KKK was the one who wrestled him to the ground and told him to get out there. Oh yeah, relations between those two offices is getting better and better.

30. This Is What Arianna Has To Say
“The first thing I'm hearing from everyone I speak to is that the hunting community in Texas is near unanimous in its feeling that the story being put out by the White House and Katherine Armstrong just doesn't hold water -- that Whittington's injuries are not consistent with the "official story." Cheney had to be much closer to Whittington when he "peppered" him than the 30 yards being claimed.”cont…

“The hunters in Texas I've spoken to are also up in arms over the shadow this incident has cast upon their sport -- even aside from the recklessness exhibited by the VP in swinging around into a setting sun and aiming low enough to shoot Whittington in the face.

"This isn't real hunting," one longtime sportsman told me. "This is a Six Flags amusement park version. It's playtime with loaded weapons. Driving around blasting clip-winged birds raised in pens that have been flushed out by ranch employees isn't exactly the stuff of Hemingway is it?"

Actually, given the latest indications of pre-shoot drinks and the hints of extra-marital hijinx, it feels more and more like the stuff of Updike. Or Kind Hearts and Coronets.”

38. The whole story doesn't wash.
I am not sure where the bird was but my best guess is it would be trying to get the hell out of there and not by walking either. He would have to have been aiming at chest-level to have hit Whittington.

Also, I am not sure where Cheney got his weapons training, mine came via the U.S. Army. I would NEVER turn and open fire unless I knew for CERTAIN that (a) none of my "comrades" were behind me and (b) I was under fire from that direction. It just doesn't make logical sense.

34. “Where There's Smoke, There's Fire, Where There's One Beer, There's a Liar
Edited on Thu Feb-16-06 12:16 AM by Me.
<<<snip>>>
“What is the most likely thing to happen during a 14 hour delay that is worth the negative publicity? One possibility is that it takes approximately that period of time for alcohol to dissipate in the body and no longer be subject to accurate testing. It is fairly common for people involved in alcohol-related accidents to delay reporting them until the alcohol has left the body. There is no hard evidence that this is what happened here, but we are entitled to a better explanation. We should be told whether Vice President Cheney's victim had alcohol in his system when he was taken to the hospital. Was there any alcohol at or near the hunting area? Were any in the hunting party carrying flasks (which is apparently common among hunters)? What was Cheney doing just before he went hunting? Did anyone in the hunting party have a drink? We do know that Cheney had two drunk driving convictions when he was in his early 20s, but he has apparently been clean since then.” Cont…
