Did Hume ASK Cheney if he had been drinking, or did
Cheney volunteer this information?

1. What's the difference?
The interview was scripted.

2. That's true.
If it was scripted, then Cheney essentially wanted it in there. The difference is that if it was his idea that BEER be in the interview at all, then someone's clearly worried about it.

3. This whole "one beer with lunch" thing is what is known as
A limited hang-out. Let out just enough that you can't be accused of lying(and can possibly pass a polygraph later on) but not enough to incriminate you. It is done when you're trying to cover up some serious shit. Nixon tried this trick a few times, and it came back later to help hang him, hopefully it does the same here.

4. Yes, that's why I asked. It would be doubly obvious if it were
Cheney's idea in the first place.

5. I agree that it won't work here either.
Ordinary people see that "one beer" claim and call bullshit.

9. If I recall correctly
The most common excuse in DWI stops is, "I had one or two beers."

I can recall preparing a case for non-judicial punishment when I was on active duty, and the sailor's defense was, I only had two beers. Turns out by "beer," he was referring to 40-ounce malt liquor bottles.

6. Of course not. Why didn't Cheney do a press conference w/ reporters asking
Edited on Wed Feb-15-06 04:47 PM by LaPera
the questions?

That's the proper way and protocol a Vice President should of conducted a situation such as this one.

Lying, arrogant, piece of shit is Cheney, and he'll never reveal the drunken truth!

8. I think he volunteered it.
The word was out, so he had to mention it. Interesting that Hume wouldn't ask, but he is the WH corporate media point man. So Cheney had to pre-empt the possibility that someone else would corroborate Armstrong's comment.

That said, he certainly should have volunteered to have a field sobriety test, just so all questions would have been cleared. One beer would be traceless after 4-5 hours, so why not make sure that this was documented? Unless, it was 1 beer and a 1/2 fifth of Wild Turkey.
