A question, if in fact the tapes are legit, and HUssein was actively seeking to hide WMD programs from the west does this is some way mitigate criticism of Bush's drive to war?

IMO, with only reading the ABC article, no. It was always about capability to me, never about the zero sum existence of WMD in Iraq.

In the article there is red meat for both sides but I think the right will end up making greater use out of these tapes to justify invasion.

2. Apparently the tapes are mid 90's and Saddam is talking about

what some other country might do to the US. It's utterly bogus, why else would it be on that silly late night program?
