Where Does All This Get Us?
Our eye popping awareness of the travesties being committed daily against us and our country, our outrage at the blatant criminality occurring at such a speed that it is gathering into a huge mass of felonies? And yet there seems to be no justice, no abatement of the royal screwing of the US of A.

And what are we waiting for, to happen? The coin falling with the other side up? For frankly, with the exception of a handful or two of people, it looks to be more of the same. The jockeying for position and power, the careful guaging of numbers, the parsing of position.

Is it that we are waiting for it all to collapse, fall into a black hole of the lies and dishonesty it all represents. Are we the ones standing by waiting to rebuild, when it all comes unglued, melts away like snow under rain.? It is why we have gathered here, aside from seeking others like ourselves?

We can’t depend on them, those that represent our government, not right or left, not really. For as a friend told me tonight, quoting Gore Vidal, “America only has one political party, and it has two right wings”.

So what’s next, what do you think?

1. We're survivors now
We can wear that T-shirt with pride.

What we do with that survival is up to us.

2. I Share Your Concerns - I Saw Two Posts Today That Struck Me...
Edited on Fri Feb-17-06 12:42 AM by global1
the first talked about when you put a frog in a pot of boiling water it will jump out - but put a frog in a pot of cold water and slowly heat it up to a boil and it will cook. Seems that's what's happening to us.

The second post was kind of sad as well - a fellow DU'er was asking us what plans we are making given all the negative predictions to this country that are being made here on DU. He/she wanted to get ideas as to how he/she should prepare (i.e., sell the house at near the peak - before the real estate bust; buy gold; move to another country; buy a cabin in the mountains where he/she could take the family and protect them). I read some of the initial responses to this post and never went back to see all the answers - but the bulk of the responses seemed to be making light of his/her suggestions. Seemed a little cruel. When someone is really asking a sincere question - and getting kinda flamed.

When I sit here and see your post (ME) and recall these other two posts that I just mentioned - I don't have a warm feeling in my tummy. I don't know what we should do or what's next. The only thing I can say is I'll be more prepared than many of my friends that think I'm obsessing on all this and that I border on being a conspiracy nut.

The only satisfaction I'll have is that I can say - "I told you so - you should have listened to me."

Seems to me a plane with two right wings will crash and burn. One can only hope that some emergency ground crew will be there to put out the fire and save most of the passengers. What we need to identify is - that emergency ground crew.

3. The Frog Metaphor Really Struck Me
As did your point about the plane. And I really appreciate your response. To me, it's rather like surviving a brush fire that sweeps through and destroys your home and everything you held dear. I have survived the last 5 years with my sanity intact, only by the grace of God and places like DU. And we've all done what we can, written letter, contributed money, volunteered. But I find myself asking where is all this going to end up? And what I wouldn't give for truth, spoken out loud and acknowledged or for responsibility to be taken for grievances wrought.

Perhaps what I'm feeling is a weariness after such a long bout with what is our national virus. And perhaps I'm concerned because I feel a tsunami coming. A complete cleansing may be the only way for us to restore what has been lost. As to the ground crew...it must surely be us. We who still know right from wrong and blue from black.

4. Your question jars my inner core
I think about these questions constantly, and wonder what catalyzing event will move people to some sort of mass action to demand change.

As for me, my wife and I moved to the mountains last summer, far away from the big city (SF Bay Area). We are connecting with like-minded folks who have an interest in community gardens and other survival strategies.
