CSpan 2 Alert: Richard Dreyfuss KICKASS speech (9am Friday)

Caught this speech he made at National Press Club luncheon Thursday. Subject: Hollywood and the media: REALLY PROFOUND! He eloquently, passionately breaks down (without using one scintilla of rhetoric, no buzz words) how our culture is paving the way for mental shutdown and totalitarian rule. He describes how the tv news reshapes the way our brain processes info and how that impacts the rest of our lives. Near the end he talks about the historical validity of impeachment, invokes the memory of Paine and the imperitive to fight for sometimes "lost causes" -- it really is SO well written AND performed. Try and tape it!

6. Well, that explains something.

A couple of months ago, I decided to buy a rosary. I have so many that belonged to my mom, aunt and grandmother, but I wanted one of my own. The rosaries I looked at had all patron saints, and of course, Jesus, God and Mary, to pick from. For no apparent reason, I picked the St. Anthony one. I was told that praying to St. Anthony would help you find things, I may have even heard he was the Patron St. of lost causes, without connecting it with THIS fight.

But after reading what Richard Dreyfus wrote, it all makes sense. We are in the fight of our lives because you know that there are going to be people who are far more powerful than we ever will be, trying to stop us from putting out the truth to the rest of the 40% Americans who still think Bush's cause is a good one.

So, those of us who believe in using rosaries as a focal point, I suggest you get one with St. Anthony so we can all pray together.

He is the Patron Saint of lost things - our democracy, perhaps? St. Jude is the Patron Saint of lost causes (I've prayed to him a time or two as well!)

I just looked up St. Anthony. He's also the Patron Saint of oppressed people.

I think we need both of them to hedge our bets.
