Texas Candidate Acknowledges He Was Male Prostitute

POSTED: 11:53 am EST February 17, 2006
UPDATED: 11:55 am EST February 17, 2006

DALLAS -- A man running for state representative acknowledged that he once worked as a prostitute but said he's turned his life around and doesn't regret his past.

Tom Malin, who has also sold Mary Kay cosmetics and now markets electricity, conceded that his illicit past could cost him the nomination in the March 7 Democratic primary.

"I've made mistakes in my life, and I've stood before my creator and I've accepted responsibility for my behavior," Malin said in Friday's Dallas Morning News.

On his campaign Web page, Malin said he is "committed to giving our families a voice in Austin, with a focus on education, the economy, and restoring a 'spirit of ethics' to our State House."

1. Well, if he had just chosen to run as a Republican,
all would be forgiven and he could carry on. But the fact that he is a Democrat means his career in politics is probably now over. Sad.

2. What does "accept responsibility"
mean anymore? He's responsible for what? Was there any consequences for his actions? Did there need to be? And wouldn't being a prostitute actually be a plus to getting into politics?

3. And he's a Democrat.. In any case, better to admit it than to have it
'exposed'..as was the case with Gannon.

9. He was "exposed" as an ex-prostitute. Gannon was an active male whore
at the time he was also "reporting" from the White House for Talon News.

5. He used to sell Mary Kay cosmetics?
<snip>
Malin said he's been sober for 13 years after being addicted to alcohol and suffering an abusive childhood.

That could explain how he became a prostitute. :( At least he's honest.

6. Being a prostitute shouldn't disqualify anyone
After all, we're talking about the Texas Legislature.

But selling Mary Kay... hmmmm, not sure I could give that a pass.

10. If the repukes keep quiet about the issue........
could it be because most of his clients were/are prominent local repukes?

And I can think of anyone who might be more concerned with the welfare of children than someone who was abused as a child himself.

8. For a moment I thought Snotty McMoonface was running for office
But then I checked myself and realized he'd never tell the truth, so, that's why it couldn't be him.

Never mind!

15. In his defense, I would just say that Mr. Malin's having provided a
traditional service, however illegal, is a more useful one than other, more virulently evil acts, also illegal,by prostitutes like Tom DeLay, whose fraud and deceptions are rawer transgressions.

I would not vote against Malin because of his particular past. I would vote against Tom DeLay for his, though.
