"Dick Cheney has the power to declassify classified info."

WHAT A CROCK!!!

This notion is in dispute,

http://firedoglake.blogspot.com/2006_02_05_firedoglake_archive.html#113954662356372406

and here

http://www.liberaloasis.com/archives/021206.htm#021606

and as the Wall Street Journal reluctantly explains:
(by way of KOS)

"The president can declassify anything," William Banks, a Syracuse University law professor and expert on national-security law, said. While the president would have to amend his own executive order governing secrets in order to declassify something on the fly, that can be accomplished very informally, even orally and in secret. "He could do it on a cocktail napkin," Mr. Banks said.

The vice president's authority to declassify is less clear. Some legal scholars believe that Mr. Cheney would share in the president's authority, as an elected official. Alternatively, the president could delegate his declassification authority to the vice president.

"The classification system is rooted for the most part not in statute but in executive order. ...In the case of the NIE, the White House was free to declassify it at a moment's notice," said Steven Aftergood, director of the project on government secrecy at the Federation of American Scientists, which favors increased public access to government information.

The implication from the disclosure that Mr. Libby had authority to discuss sensitive intelligence matters with the press "is that the White House -- the vice president -- has been using his declassification authority as a way to advance the administration's political agenda," said Mr. Aftergood. "In other words, information that supports the administration's position on Iraq or whatever is selectively declassified and other information is not. That's not a criminal offense, but it's kind of sleazy."

yet Wolfie, Torie and the whole gang just prattle off..."Well he has that power," "yes, he has that power..."

NO HE G D DOES NOT, YOU APES!!!

Cheney said he has the power, but that doesn't make it true. And in my experience if they say ANYTHING it's a sure bet that they are lying.

2. If he has had this power all along...
why wait until now to tell us?? Why now?? Why not point this little factoid out when Plames Identity was first uncovered?

It would seem that (once again) if they weren't doing anything wrong, why delay telling their story?

4. Sweetie, I mean this with love
Stop watching television news. Network news if you must but just kill the Cable News Networks off in your mind. If you have a cable system that lets you create channel lists or filters, just filter them out. When I moved last year I programmed my remote to exclude all news, religion, shopping, children's and Spanish channels none of which interest me. Life with only written news online has been a lot calmer and saner. Occassionally someone like yourself tells me what these assholes are doing and saying and sure it pisses me off but in a duller sense now.

There are several websites like Presstitutes that have truly analyzed the propaganda at play and movies like Outfoxed are cathartic because they truly validate why we get angry. There is an organized effort to lie to the American people for the benefit of this administration and its corporate sponsors. The misinform deliberately, they omit relevant stories, they balance spin and lies with the truth equally if the truth gets any airtime at all. It is not journalism. It's just a circus of lies and an instrument to further the enemy's cause. It will give you nothing to watch it but moments yelling at the screen and calling the GD Apes.

Feel what's happening in your body when you watch it. Muscles tense heart beats faster. Life is too short. Just read your news and watch fun stuff on TV.

Just my two cents because your rage reminded me of how I once was and how glad I'm not now.

6. Well alright then
Thanks for watching it and keeping an eye on those assholes for the rest of us would prefer to have low blood pressure.

Sometimes I confess and I do flip past and I play a game to see how long I can stay before hearing a lie or a deliberate spin in administrations favor by a supposed impartial "journalist". I make it maybe a minute or two depending on commericals.

Enjoy your weekend! :hi:
