Whatever happened to the ABC New Anchor who got shot up in Iraq?
Has anyone heard anything about him lately? He was shot up pretty bad...landed in Germany for patch up and then was sent back to USA...

What was his name? The new guy who was supposed to be ABC Co-Anchor to replace Jennings with a "team?"

Where is he? How is he doing?

1. I imagine he has had serious head trauma.....
He even may still be on a ventilator. No news is not good news. Just like the poor fella from the carbon monoxide poisoning from the WVa. coal mine......no news lately there either.

2. Haven't heard anything since he was transferred to Germany...
... but, that's not surprising. If, as the early reports suggested, he'd suffered some brain damage, he's looking at many weeks of rehabilitation, at minimum.

3. Not well...
I have connections to an ABC staff member of significant presence in the newsroom. Woodruff is very badly injured - there was a lot of tissue damage and his condition is permanently compromised. Very sad.

10. Geez, I hope your contact is wrong.
If not, what a terrible waste of a good and well-intentioned reporter in a senseless war.

I usually don't flaunt my contacts, which are not insignificant in Philly here, but this one is, and always has been, 100% reliable.

4. I don't know if he is still in a coma or if he's awaken
ABC had this bit out yesterday where his brother talks.

David Woodruff Says: "The More We Learn About Bob's Injuries, The More We Appreciate Just How Lucky He Is"
ABC News president David Westin sent the following e-mail to his colleagues today:

"Bob and Doug continue their treatments in Bethesda, and both continue to make progress. Bob's brother, David, asked me to pass along this note from him and the family bringing you up to date on Bob:

On behalf of all the Woodruffs I wanted to reach out to Bob's entire ABC family and thank you again for your seemingly endless supply of love and support. It means everything to us and to everyone involved in Bob's recovery.

To update you - Bob's amazing team of doctors, nurses and corpsmen continue to be pleased with the progress he makes each day and they are optimistic about his recovery. But the more we learn about Bob's injuries the more we appreciate just how lucky he is. We need to remind ourselves it's only been 2 and a half weeks since he sustained his injuries in Iraq. We live in a world of instant gratification where patience as a virtue is rarely practiced. Our family now has a whole new appreciation for the word and what it truly means to be patient.

5. I found this from yesterday.
Woodruff's brother: Doctors are optimistic

ABC News just sent an e-mail to reporters. In it, the brother of World News Tonight co-anchor Bob Woodruff says doctors are "optimistic" about the newsman's recovery from serious injuries he suffered in Iraq. And, ABC News President David Westin says both Woodruff and photographer Doug Vogt continue to "make progress."

-snip-
To update you - Bob's amazing team of doctors, nurses and corpsmen continue to be pleased with the progress he makes each day and they are optimistic about his recovery. But the more we learn about Bob's injuries the more we appreciate just how lucky he is. We need to remind ourselves it’s only been 2 ½ weeks since he sustained his injuries in Iraq. We live in a world of instant gratification where patience as a virtue is rarely practiced. Our family now has a whole new appreciation for the word and what it truly means to be patient.

"So many of you have asked about Lee, the kids and her extended family. She has been at Bethesda almost every day since we all arrived there from Germany. The kids have come down on the weekends. Thanks to Bob and Lee's dedicated army of friends in their hometown the kids are receiving love, tenderness and most importantly, continuing with their routines as much as possible. My brothers and I and our spouses are rotating in and out of Bethesda along with Lee's sisters and their spouses - remaining a constant presence for Bob, Lee and my parents.

"We see so much sacrifice every day at the hospital and we can't help but feel grateful to the soldiers being treated alongside Bob and their families. We know World News Tonight is directing their audience to consider giving to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund and Fisher House Foundation. We encourage those of you who want to help to do the same. We are a very lucky family and here in Bethesda we are constantly reminded that not everyone is as blessed.

Have we ever heard exactly what his injuries are?

13. Head injuries.. As far as I know, he is still "sedated"
Apparently, the photographer was able to talk and was conscious..No such luck for Woodruff

17. I doubt he is sedated much now.....
I have seen my share of acute head injuries........I can easily imagine what he is experiencing which is probably rudimentary mental/brain functions. It just breaks my heart.

19. just read he is an medically induced coma
And, I saw a picture in a magazine someone had -- People?- that showed his bedside, where a note on the accompanying equipment near his bedside noted that a segment of his skull is still off and has not been reattached.
The hunch is that since they're not talking about some sort of miraculous recovery, things are still pretty bad. I tend to believe the previous poster with inside information from the newsroom.
