I am just a bit amazed that some folks here seem to think that this is the defining moment for the Bush administration. I would have hoped for better.
Some actually think that by demanding answers about a hunting accident (24/7, even!), that injured a friend of the criminal regime that runs the US at the moment, that this will change the fortunes of Democrats. I gotta wonder what these people are drinking.
Can you imagine attempting to run a campaign based on this incident, while the injured person in this here is giving his personal support to cheney???
Much more to the point, what are the concerns of the American people? Cheney's behavior on a hunting trip? They don't have to worry about themselves or loved ones going hunting with Dick, for most people the opportunity just never comes up. They are worried about the war in Iraq. They are worried about this endless war that is claiming the lives of so many, that threatens their future.]
Will the Democrats call for an immediate end to this war, and bring the troops home, and a whole new policy in the Middle East that calls for complete nuclear disarmament... or will there be merely more calls for a "plan" to bring the troops home "after success" in Iraq, and continue a belligerent/militaristic policies abroad.
People are worried about health care. Will they be able to provide for loved ones care? Will they have to cut back on food to pay for needed medications?
Will the Democrats say, the answer is guaranteed health care for all, or will they continue to back "market-oriented" plans that does little to solve the problem?
People are concerned about the lack of good jobs at good wages. Will Democrats demand a living wage for all? Or will they succumb to the demands of Wal Mart and permit the continued impoverishment of Americans working full-time jobs.
If the next election is about Cheney's hunting skills, then I think the Dems are doomed.
The message and the issues need to be clear. We need to stand for an end to this illegal and unjust war (and not be afraid to call it that), to real justice and fairness to all nations, to stand for economic justice for all Americans. Is that too much to ask?
