Local radio ad (for Kia dealership) makes fun of spying issue...
I'm from central Iowa, and I was driving when I heard this commercial on the radio--for a local Kia dealership.

I apologize that I don't remember the commercial verbatim (it's hard to hear over your two children in the backseat!), but the basic outline was this:

George Bush calls Bill Clinton's answering machine. Bush leaves a message about knowledge of a Clinton vacation in the Bahamas. Clinton picks up the receiver and says, "Boy! You guys really are listening in on everything that we do, aren't ya?"

I couldn't believe it.

So now...spying on people and their personal private business is an accepted part of pop culture and humorous fodder for advertisements?

I didn't know what to make of this, and I wasn't sure if I was overreacting--but frankly, I thought it was sick. Being so nonchalant about this fascist government illegally spying on all of us--really isn't that funny to me.

1. That's great!!
When the general public begins ridiculing the powers that be, that is GOOD.

Seriously.

They're not being nonchalant. They're educating the idiots that never read/watch/listen to the news.

2. You're not over-reacting at all.
Call the Kia dealership and express your anger - then call the radio station, and do the same.

You've said the Kia dealership is local, so encourage your neighbours (their potential customers) to do the same.

4. I believe it was Kia of Des Moines...
...that's what I remember.

I'm sorry to post this message when my facts are kind of fuzzy.

I'm 99 percent sure it was Kia of Des Moines.

I'll listen to the radio tomorrow--and also make some phone calls to get better clarity on the ad and who placed it.

I know I heard it on 1040 WHO AM--our local, very-popular station that features mainly right-wing radio programs.

5. I think Gabus owns it
Just curious - I'm a native and familiar with the car biz in Des Moines.

6. Gabus might own it....
...Their Web site says "Conveniently located on the Merle Hay Auto Mile Between Gabus Ford & Toyota of Des Moines."

7. 99.99% sure he owns it then
Gabus owns Toyota and used to own the lot in between. It was Merle Hay Mitsubishi/Suzuki. He even owned the Yugo dealership years ago.

Sorry to interrupt the thread. :)
