His shadowy neocon backers have evidently assured Swann that it is a certainty that Bush's SC will be overturning Roe in the near future. I look forward to hearing exactly who his handlers are - they have a long way to go to educate Swann on the basics of state government, and the governor's responsibilities, let alone on policy issues. Swann has made some really dumbass comments on how he will simply eliminate the property tax without increasing any other taxes to replace state, local govt., and school district revenues. I think Gov. Rendell has cut Swann off at the knees on the property tax issue by calling a special session of the legislature to address the matter. Whatever the legislature comes up with, it will have had to have received the approval of the Republican majority in the state House and Senate, so Swann cannot criticize it.
I think of Swann as a glorified, talking jockstrap. And while I'm a Steelers fan, it is beyond idiotic to elect a pro athlete as governor. How would all the football fans like it if they had to use the team's accountant as quarterback? Of course, no accountant would be egotistical or stupid enough to think he could perform as quarterback. And unlike Texas, which has basically a figurehead governor, and Bush could sit in his office playing computer games, Pennsylvania gives its governor a major amount of both power and responsibility. The state is facing hard times financially, particularly with it's large number of senior citizens on fixed income. Swann would be disastrous.
